Mugsy, exactly right and I should have mentioned that bin the meat plant output/inflation discussion I had above this. It's an artificial massive drop in supply which, albeit temporary, will cause inflation in meat and chicken products.

I can't even keep track of what I'm spending! lol 5 adults in the house, food bill was usually over $200 anyway. Paper goods and detergents used to boost the bill, now who knows what it is. But it's not corn on the cob, on sale for .19 each, haven't seen that low of a price in years! Everything else, it is what it is. We need to eat, and we're not driving around much, so instead of going to fuel, it's going to food. I must say though, we have been doing takeout a lot to support our local restaurants. Have a great weekend everyone!

Dunz, just got back from stop n shop, ears of fresh corn were 5/$1.00, 10/$2.00. Is that close enough for you? Tons of meat selections, pork and chicken were plentiful. Everything well stocked for the holiday weekend. If there is a meat shortage, I'm not seeing it in my neck of the woods.

Doc, I think Friday is a good day to shop because it's the day the new weekly menu comes out, and being the start of a holiday weekend, they want to keep people happy. I guess all the meat, chicken and toilet paper hoarders have filed their coffers these past few weeks so the panic buying has settled down. For me, pulling out a piece of meat or chicken that has been sitting in the bottom of a freezer for the past six months just doesn't sound too appetizing. They had porterhouse or t-bone steaks for $6.99/lb.and they will be hitting the grill this weekend.

Re: Banter Thread 5.0
No issues with meat here or a cost increase, and thank god our area starts phase 1 reopening on Tuesday, which basically means crap until we reach 3 and 4. I ma very surprised at the casinos in CT opening agaist the Governors advice but they are soverign nations and can do wha tthey please. Would you all think I am dumb to go check it out? It is highly changed when they open June 1st anlmost none of it is open and the are really only catering to CT and RI, but cannot stop drivers from going, only busses are banned (what sucks is that also means that I will not receive any promotions though (like free play etc) I have a decent status level there, until they market to out of staters). Does anyone know about traveling into Ct or NJ? Is it allowed without getting pulled over? I am pretty sure neither governor has implemented any law but does suggest a 14 day quarentine, sorry not gonna do that. I been inside enough as it is I think I have done my part so far more so than many. I have been out, basically to mail stuff, go to dunkin once or twice a week and to pickup curbside, I wear my mask and socially distance as much as I can. Otherwise its just for a drive or I am home. But I do not like this laziness and a nice trip out to CT would be good for me but not if it's not safe, I cannot live in fear forever but a casino does pose more risks than other places. Whats going on with Atlantic City? Are they reopening?

Re: Banter Thread 5.0
Also does anyone know the status of townwide garage sales and garage sales in general for NJ? My ebay business relys on my going out hunting for stuff to resell and I do it mostly in NJ, as of right now I believe theres some kind of ban on at least the townwides as they draw a huge crowd? I really hope we can at least salvage the fall for that, Luckily I have enough back log to keep my sales going probably till then and my job....for now, special education is in jeopardy eventually as schooling looks to potentially go virtual for good, and the type of services we provide don't work too well over video. We are also not getting many parents that want to learn to be the teacher, and many of our kids age out for september, unless we get at least 30-40 new kids (not going to happen ) our school could go belly up. With Mconell swearing he will not allow a continuation of the $600 extra to unemployment ill be screwed royally if I get laid off due to their financial situation.

I have been told it is insensitive to say happy memorial day (the governor of NY got hell for saying it) so i am just going to say make sure you give respect to those who served and died for our country and enjoy this weekend for other reasons not around memorial observence.

Greybeard,
My wife and I do not have a freezer and all during this shutdown have been able to get chicken, pork and fish from Stop and Shop and Shop Rite.
Your freezer remark reminds me of a funny story of a Buddy's Depression Era Parents. They were so Depression scarred, they had a fridge and two big freezers lest the three major supermarkets within one mile of their home did not have food.My Buddy said he never got to eat a fresh chicken as his Dad would throw the ones he just bought on sale in the freezer and pull out one months old for that night,LOL.
Hope the steaks turn out great and enjoy the weekend!

Jman there is no ban of going back and forth..AC is not open yet...Would I personally go into a Casino at this time..no, but that is a personal choice. You have too much exchange going on there. money chips slots..too much touching and have never been sanitary..so for me again no. ..I personally have changed my shopping habits and probably will continue in the future. I order delivery from grocery, fruit market, butcher.. again this is a personal choice. I do miss my coffee at my Starbucks in Target...every weekday morning after dropping my son off at school and socializing with the regular workers in there while I browse around....I miss the social aspect of all this...I am happy that the boat is in the water as of Friday..boating will keep us out and sane and distancing...I do not know what will happen with flea markets and garage sales..I believe farmers markets are opening again they are out doors and as long as you are not on top of one another people should be fine. Being outside is good...they are finding that it is when you are in a work setting or other closed settings that you are at a higher risk. My husband laughed the other day..I have started cleaning out our attic and I have said for years I will have a huge garage sale when I was done..and he says I choose the year that I wont have one to clean...lol. I will store the good stuff in one section for a future date...Good luck at work. I am worried for those who are effected financially by all of this.

Well the precautions that are taking place to keep things clean at the CT casinos anyways are crazy, and capacity is sliced so much and cleaning i hear is going to be 10x what it was. But I have friends who will go before I will so I will ask them what it is like. Lamont is stil ltrying to figure out a way to not allow people in there including blocking the highway exits. Do I think its too soon for them to open? Probably, but with them open even at very limited capacity and very few parts open its hard not to want to go as its something I do on occasion. But it won't be like it used to be and right now the hotel is blocked from anyone out of state to book a room and its far for me to do a day trip. Honestly no idea what I am going to do.weatherwatchermom wrote:Jman there is no ban of going back and forth..AC is not open yet...Would I personally go into a Casino at this time..no, but that is a personal choice. Happy Birthday Frank!! Beautiful day for your big day!!
I was up in Delaware and Otsego County NY this weekend. They had a whopping total of 19 COVID cases and are in phase 2. IMHO an aboslute joke for these people and business.
Flaten the curve right?? What curve they say up there, there never was one nor will there be. one.
