Plain rain and chilly is just awful, it actually puts me in the worst mood possible if I have to go out in it. You guys said we would see a change for the better for Jan in Dece. not putting stock in what is being said for Feb, Scott maybe we should have done that bet, normally the winter season (this is not winter) would produce soon or not at all. You also know its a strange year when people are having outdoor garage sales in Jan lol, I kid you not.
Gotta love a Mars Attacks response

I can't wait for spring, sitting out on the back porch at night, with my radio talking with friends.

I do like all the seasons. Something unique to appreciate. My Fav, besides a snowy winter, is autumn. Just getting cold. Smoke from fireplaces. Leaves turning color. Football, Thanksgiving, The Holidays approaching, and of course hope of a great winter!

I couldn’t agree more.
Summer my least favorite but it’s okay as long as the days over 90 doesn’t exceed 7 for the season.

Re: Banter Thread 8.0
31 years in the trenches of the business and WE DON'T MAKE THE CALL!! The district decision is based off of a number of factors but 1st and foremost safety. I have been off for the STORM OF THE CENTURY in 2001 that gave us 3" over 2 days, and the Blizzard in 2014 that produced 3" as well for us. They cancelled based off the Pro Mets forecast, NWS. I have been brought into school in a Winter Storm Warning with heavy snow falling in March of 2018, last year’s ice event in January 4th (30 plus kids had car accidents – I teach at a high school - besides over a dozen teachers). Some cases were not released early and had to drive home a few times because they missed the window to get the busses here on time for an early dismissal. Two such instances took me an hour for a 15-minute trip home in 3-4" of snow OTG and moderate windblown snowy conditions. I am not saying this to be a look at me but say we have events where it was the other way around as well.2004blackwrx wrote:Teachers will take any excuse not to work. The police, bus companies (especially) aid in the call by the Superintendent.
In the late 90’s ours was fired because he did not call school early and a bus slid off the road and kids were injured, nothing serious but bumps, bruises and a back and neck minor injury.
They have snow days for a reason built into the schedule.

Ahh the great Dr. Alan "Sugarman" superintendenat of Ft Lee!!! He was a drill sergant.
My superintednent told me a few times, "I don't believe in snow days"!! And he has held to this belief unless the bus companies make the call along with the PO PO

I go back before him, Mugsy, it was Lewis Cole.He certainly was a hardass when it came to snow days.I thought maybe he flipped his lid when we got a Monday AND a Tuesday off in the Dec.11-12 1960 snowstorm that have Fort Lee over 20 inches.

OMG, this is hysterical and really does sum up this winter. New Jersey, Southeast New York, and southern New England have taken the brunt of the non-winter season, why should it not continue?
I really think Frank should have the word winter turn into something else, just like we did in the past for Boston and for Kucher a. Why should people be allowed to type a word that doesn’t exist this year.
Maybe the word winter should be replaced with the phrase “a period in the distant past when cold and snow would occur for an extended period of time”

Hope your wife heals quickly!!nutleyblizzard wrote:As each day passes by and I cross off another day off the calendar with this god forsaken boring winter, it’s becoming pretty obvious that we’re witnessing something that I’d never thought we see in our lifetimes…the prospect of NYC metro being shutout with snowfall. Yes I know we have the possibility of something this upcoming week, along with February and March to come, but I’m just not feeling it guys. The raging pacific jet along with the SE ridge put the death knell for any hopes this winter. Thank goodness we can finally say goodbye to LaNina in the coming weeks, and by next year I’m looking forward to a more favorable pattern. In the mean time life goes on. I’m keeping busy with myself tending to my wife mending at home after hernia surgery. I’m also looking forward to watching the NFL championship games with my brothers today. In closing, I’ll continue to lurk around the weatherboard from time to time and who knows, maybe old man winter can throw us a freaking bone and we can all have something significant to track.
