No power, no internet and I still can't sleep. Just keep staring out the window at the intense snow band that just keeps pouring snow. Easily 6 inches in the last 3 hours. Wish I could tell for sure cause it may be even more. Tomorrow morning should be interesting. Final tally should be pushing 20 at this rate. What a fun and weird storm. Incredible.

Very close.
I woke up at 5am to see rain, maybe some sleet, still falling and 32 degrees. The streets and sidewalks look slushy with maybe another inch on them since I went to bed at 9pm.
I looked out again at 5:30 when I heard the neighbors *still* trying to get their cars out (never shoveled and they keep spinning on the ice. Put something under the tires, you dopes!) and see it already stopped. I see a few drips coming from the lightposts now and then, so maybe still a slight drizzle, but when I opened the window and stuck my hand out I felt the wind but no rain.
I do see the sky breaking up and can make out individual clouds, too. It's over around here for today.

No school here, got another 2" overnight, not sure how much rain I got....rain gauge covered with snow and the snow is so deep I can't get to it! I will check some local stations for that! So storm total for me 15"

Re: 02/14 Godzilla Storm Part 2 Obs. Thread
Had only about 0.5" overnight, and to be honest I did not want to have to shovel again this morning. Bring on Sat though. I posted a totals only thread. I am making a map with the snow totals reported by the members here, so if you post your totals here please also post over there so I don't have to sift through the convo as I will be at work today. Thanks

Just trudged out and measured, unreal 10.0 inches last night and 21.0 inch storm total.
Fantastic Frank, only place in the area that saw those totals coming and the first to see potental up here for last night.
Over 30 on the ground now, I just hope it's a slow thaw.

CP, I'm in Hyde Park and we got absolutely buried. We had 11 inches with first dump of snow and I think last night's was even more. I will try to measure a little later. I have never seen so much snow but I'm still looking forward to few inches tomorrow. I am definitely a weather weenie.CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:Just trudged out and measured, unreal 10.0 inches last night and 21.0 inch storm total.

Re: 02/14 Godzilla Storm Part 2 Obs. Thread
Frank, you did a great job with a very difficult forecast. You had the gonads to put up that snowmap which some thought might be a little bullish but you were spot on. Great job on such a dynamic storm. Kudos to others on this board like Tom, Ryan, and many others. The NWS was very good with snow totals as well. A few more observations: Pro TV mets continued to be behind the curve as usual. The EURO was locked on this 4 days out and very reliable and consistent. The European models kicked the US models ass. It was embarrassing especially the GFS's performance. That was an absolute train wreck. NAM was ok. TWC is the worst. I mean the worst. Yesterday morning they had 3-5 for me during day and 2-4 at night. I wound up with 20 inches or so. I guess the were tracking the GFS. Just brutal.

Agree with you 100% on Frank,Tom,Ryan Doc nailing this down.Very poor performance by pro Mets for your area.Instead of 5 to 9 they predicted, you got 20!! Horrendous.
It's a winter weather enthusiast's dream out there at my place this morning.Over two feet of snowpack, trees glistening with snow and ice and a brilliant sun,Plus, more snow possible tonight and tomorrow morning.

Spent one hour shoveling the property. It was a lot harder clearing this 3 inches of snow and slop than the 13.5 powdery inches from Phase 1. Thankfully, that warm, higher angle sun and temps near 40 today will help get the residual ice off of the driveway and walk.
Gonna need to check into a rest home for a week at the end of March.

IT'S MELTIIIIINGGGGG!!!! (Said in my best Wicked Witch cackle)
The sun is shining on my side of the street, the curbs are overflowing with water, and it's all running rapidly downhill towards the avenue. Except in driveways - where the snow piles make dams preventing easy flow it's all backing up, and tonight each driveway will have its own skating rink. Again.
