It's time for the long range winter forecast from the OTI Meteorological Institute.

The winter of 2014-2015:

1)  For areas 25 miles and more North and West of the I 95 corridor: Below average cold and below to average snowfall

2) For the I 95 corridor and areas 25 miles around it: Below to average cold and average to above average snowfall

3)For far Southern NJ, the Jersey Shore, LI, SE Conn.,RI and the Cape:Average cold and above average to much above average snowfall

I expect the colder air to the N and W to suppress the big snowstorms to the South and East.Even without that influence, the last five years, big snowstorms have trended far south or to the south and east of I 95.I expect that trend to continue until it's decisively broken, perhaps if I am wrong in the above, this year.Accuweather's long range seems to see a more N and W bias for the snowstorms and mixing in the areas I have called for the heaviest snow.

I don't dare post this on the mainland board because my forecast is "seat of the pants", non-model based on 54 years of observing NE area winters.Howeever, any of you "slumming" here on the OTI Snow Weenie board now have my opinions, LOL!

Doc:

It's not as bad as you think. Get your mind out of Mahwah, that nightmare is over.

Some of what you say is true. Last year in the HV we had 71.4 inches and most areas to our south and east had 60-75 inches of snow. A little above the norm for us, way above for them but all in all a good year, despite Mugsy's snow drought after he was named King in mid February.

The year before we had 65.1 inches and NYC had 26.1.

February 2010 we received 36.0 inches from that storm, Boxing day Blizzard 25 inches. Many other 10-20 inch storms during that time including the October 29, 2011 of 16 inches.

The big difference to me has been people from the south and east have been joining in or exceeding us at times, but the borderline storms we still make out like bandits, and in the past I agree that was unheard of.

Sounds great, CP!

Really happy to be out of Bergen County and Mahwah and up here.Yeah, those borderline storms where got slop in Mahwah will be all snow up here.

Remember that Feb 2010 storm up at my GF's at Mansion Ridge in Monroe.Quite frankly, I had never seen that much snow EVER living in Bergen County from '56 to '14.

Let's hope for the best, my friend!

With this onset of colder weather, daylight savings time change and the possibility of a few flakes flying in the HV, I am inspired to compose some winter poetry......

"T'was the Night Before Nowcast" or "Ode to a Blizzard"

Twas the night before nowcast,
and all through the house,
this weatherboard went crazy,
with a blizzard about.

Is it possible to happen,
I heard people say,
Could very well be,
There's a plus PNA.

Another thing that looked so terrific,
a weak El Nino was in the Pacific.

The other connections lined up just right,
Looked like it would be,
One helluva night.

So on Frankie, Sroc, CP and Tom,
You'll be at your computers,
T'ill the break of Dawn.

The rest of us here will all sit and pray,
That a blizzard hits us,
Just like Boxing Day.

Thanks Dunz and Frank.

One of my secret ambitions was to be a comedian and my podium here on OTI allows me to .

Glad to keep the board happy and laughing.

Great poem that goes into the annals  of this board!!

Now onto the OTI kingdom as I from my perch and tour have seen many a plight by the natives. They seek the good gracious  deeds of their king to bring them ...........SNOW! No not you snow man or so you call ye self but the white gold that makes everyone so joyous and filled with excitement. As I sit on me couch recovering from surgery due to the difficult rigors of my tour, an ape screamed so loud I almost lost my hearing by th way I did not know of such creature in my land must be a plant by one of my backstabbing courtiers hmmm?? CP?

The season shall commence soon enough with cold and snow and all shall be right agin in the land of OTI that we come to love and revere as you do your Snow King.

Where are the my most stout followers from the great land of OTI? Snowy, CP and DOC I call for your presence at once so we shall commence in our beginning of the inter season rituals. I may have to send out my most trusted scout to help find you igore Von put ski who loves snow.

I believe this should be laminated and framed in the OTI Museum of Arts and Science.

As acting Treasury Director I will take up a coconut collection tomorrow morning to get the project properly funded. I think I speak for all the citizens of OTI, when I say you make us proud of our homeland and heritage.

Doc, This poem is GREAT !!! I printed it out and put it on the wall above where my computer sits at work. Mugs I hope your feeling better after your surgery and your recovering quickly. I hope you can come through this winter season with some really terrific snow totals, after all you are the SNOW KING  king of the OTI and we're counting on you to produce some hellacious storms this year. If this doesn't happen I will have to get the counsel of the OTI together to take a vote on whether to oust you or keep you as our KING  king  at the end of the season. The members of the OTI are counting on you OH GREAT ONE. Cp and Doc what are your thought's on this ?

To all my most ardent supporters of OTI land well how was the first sight of wintry precip? Pulled the  cat  Out of the hat there and if I do not keep my promise to you gents I shall leave with disdain and regret for having failed my countrymen of three  - including me makes four!

If I fight you on this the OTI parliament must be called to order and there is an amendment that states in proclamation " if the person who is crowned King does not fulfill a unilateral request of said party then there shall be either a vote or a waiver of one calendar year for the crown. The crown shall hold two votes and the vote must be of quorum to be enacted." On this day 11-6-2014 passed by said parliament of OTI.

Just had to bring this up to my good men's attention.

Now on a lighter note when are the four of us going on tour for weather comedy as we enlightened so many board members here last year? I can get us our first gig at Lou's Tavern in Hillsdale , you know the place where good friends meet!affraid

King Mugsy, no need for Parliamentary action to save the OTI Citizens tax dollars (coconuts). We can all agree that your reign will end in infamy and dishoner should you not come across this winter with monumental snow totals.Of course, you haver nothing to worry about ,oh King, with your amazing ability to conjure up flakes with just a wave of your hand.Your position should be secure.

Would love nothing better than to take the OTI Komedy Review on the road, but being that the logistics of our lives put the kibosh on that, we will all have this OTI thread to post our routines on so the rest of the mainlanders who may be slumming here can enjoy them.At the very least, the four of us can scream out loud at the comedy we generate!

Should this possible snowstorm dump 6 plus inches up here in the HV I think King Mugsy will be honored by the following pledge by the Citizens of OTI....

"I pledge allegiance, to the King
of Off Topic Island,

"And to the snowflakes
for which he stands,

One Island, in da Blizzardville
with snowstorms and whiteouts
for all!"

Doc, just the hear ye, hear ye introduction has earned you a temporary 5 day visa on OTI. As Treasury Director and often times Dictator of our numerous breakaway territories, let me welcome you to our humble Island.

Please enjoy the many fine tourist attractions we have to offer. Many people like to begin with a tour of SnowMans hollowed out tree trunk. From there it's a mere half mile to the straw hut Doc built, copying the architectural designs of the Skipper and Gilligan. From there feel free to tour the spider infested cave, which still has no hammocks though they were promised months ago by Docstox, that I call home.

Your second day on the Island you may want to tour the abandoned sand castle of the self proclaimed King Mugs king . Our king has not been seen on the Island for many months, but he still lays a legitimate claim to the throne for the snow he has bestowed upon his citizens the past two weeks. As always his position as King is tenuous. If the masses do not see any appreciable snow through the Christmas season the citizens will overlook our political, religious, and ethnic difference and unite to overthrow the absentee Monarch. But that Sir Scott, if I may bestow that temporary title and use your first name to address you, is OTI politics and it should not interfere in any way with your stay.

Please note the exchange rate is .65 coconuts per dollar and 7 coconuts equal 1 banana, therefore at current exchange rates, 1 banana equals 10.769 dollars.

Enjoy your stay, which shall not exceed 5 days. If you do exceed your visa, you will be thrown into OTI prison, a straw hut with bamboo jail cells constructed by Docstox, this time copying the architectural designs of the Professor.

Welcome Mainlander.

A friggin' riot, CP, what agreat way to start my day!

Your prose and composition have earned you chairmanship of the OTI Board of Tourism and Development and I hope Doc (Sir Scott) makes the most of his temporary visa.

Please spend your coconuts/bananas quickly as the dollar is strengthening however those bananas and coconuts will buy you more gasoline these days with the collapse of crude oil prices. If only there were cars and gas stations on OTI!

Yes, King Mugsy lives on the razors edge, one busted snowstorm away from being overthrown, tarred and feathered and pilloried. However, as CP mentions, he is riding high with the snow he delivered to himself,CP,SNOW and myself.

I hope you as Treasury Director have been vigilant in collecting visa fees to OTI because I noticed a 25 visit increase to the Island from yesterday to this morning.Apparently, mainlanders who choose to go slumming here for the many attractions are on the rise. Please note this accordingly and check your records to see if the treasury revenues reflect this increase.

Great news, oh Direktor of the Treasury and Board of Tourism! The Swiss Bank Referendum failed to pass and now that the people there reject any additional backing of the currency by gold, here is are chance to declare a solid currency backed by coconuts and banannas of which we produce multi mega amounts.OTI bucks will be backed by TANGIBLE assets (banannas and coconuts) rather than just some thin air, like American dollars! With your knowledge and wisdom of currency trading and manipulations as Treasury director, we can make billions shorting other currencies while the world realizes and accepts the strength of our bananna/coconut currency.

Just since your acceptance of the post this morning, an amazing 25 more visit visa's were issued.Therein lies the source, in addition to our agricultural strength of financing for our currency trading machinations!

Snow Weenie King Mugsy, my spies on the mainland report to me of grumbling and complaining due to the fact that Christmas will be white-less.They are wondering, oh King, why you are not coming across on this, the most snow necessary Holiday of them all. They feel you are not coming across in your snowflake duties.I suggest you get to work right away or rebellion will occur with the citizens of OTI and the mainland arriving at your palace with torches and pitchforks.

Your lack of attention to your loyal subjects here at OTI is mind boggling.Have the mainlanders usurped your attention so much that not even a cursory visit to OTI is on your agenda.

Take heed,oh King,take heed!

Dear Brutus, I mean Doc:

The King seems to have forgotten his subjects yet again. He gives us a white Thanksgiving and he believes he's done for the season. I warned him then it only bought him a months grace and so far to put it in laymans terms, December blows.

SnowMan was ready to ransack the Kings sand castle this morning, I persuaded him to give his highness till the end of the month, and if we are Snowless by then, there will be no stopping him. Not only will the kings name be mud, but his sand castle as well.

As always I hope you are well and I'm sure those hammocks you ordered last winter will be coming any day now.

Sincerely
Director of the Treasury
CP

PS - If I hear the king tell me the stratospheric warming is coming one more time, I to may lose it.

Duly noted and inscribed in the daily history of OTI that on this day, Dec. 18 anno domani 2014, the King was forewarned and has until the end of December to produce the snow he has so abundantly promised or dire consequences, of which you, Director of the Treasury, and myself, will have no control to stop, will transpire.

This stratospheric warming is a bunch of hot air and the King must dispose of it forthwith!!!!!!
