Re: January 22nd-24th Nor'easter Observations & Discussions
This is all a maybe still but.......So waking up this morning and checking in it looks like this will not be your typical strong nor'easter like I posted last night. If we actually do get gusts to 65 mph then there will be tons of damage and power outages. Jman you look like you were right harping this all along.
As far as the Jersey shore not having dunes up 4 years after Sandy that is inexcusable. What the hell goes on down there with those tax dollars

Syo as someone who has lived at the jersey shore for yrs our state is the worst run state you can find. No matter what political party takes over they waste money and do nothing. They just had to close the bridge between the jersey and pa turnpike because it was in such a state of disrepair.

Glad I was able to heed the warning and people that I know FB ect are aware. latest briefing, everything was increased winds and rainfall and a "hurricane force wind warning" for gusts to over 75 kts over the oceans waters adjacent to coastal southern LI, thats the first time I have heard of that.

I wonder if the bridges will be restricted or even closed at the height of the storm, usually when winds reach these levels they do so. MTA will also not run above ground with winds sustained 35mph or faster.

Re: January 22nd-24th Nor'easter Observations & Discussions
Well they actually have built dunes in a lot of shore towns -including the one I spend my summer in. Some local residents in some towns fought the government to stop dune projects in their town because it would ruin their view and channel beach access around their property. I wouldn't blame the government for that.

You're correct
It's a 5 hour difference so this time of year just subtract 5 hours from the time posted.

I don't know if these winds will verify as they do often fall short of forecast, but if they do, anyone who thinks this storm with sustained 30-40 mph winds and frequent gusts of 70 mph is just a typical rain event along the coast is in for a surprise. Because it is not.

Exactly. Due to costly litigation by homeowners:
http://www.app.com/story/news/local/ocean-county/sandy-recovery/2016/08/01/legal-fees-dune-battle/87905484/
as elsewhere, where residents who lost their first lawsuit to stop the dunes this summer continue to tie it up with nonsense like this:

jeeze that's some heavy precip why does nam keep show snow even into nyc. Coupled with the winds visibility will b nill. I think there will b restrictions or closures to the main bridges. Will b bad if u gotta commute to nj from nyc.Frank_Wx wrote:

Re: January 22nd-24th Nor'easter Observations & Discussions
Interesting to note..
I live in smithtown, long island. I have been to hauppauge and commack already this morning running errands. No one is getting gas (but me) and the Shop Rite is empty.
I pray that I'm just overly cautious otherwise a lot of people are going to be in for a surprise.
