rb, I'm like 50 miles from Ithaca and the NAM is showing about 10 hours of non-stop sleet. Just how nervous should I be?

If DC somehow gets heavy snow out of this, and we get only sleet and rain someone just shoot me.

Moderately. I think everybody sees some sleet, regardless of where you are, but you'll probably end up with 6-8" total, based on my thinking rom last night. Given current jobs, though, that may change ahaha

Agreed. Although it wouldn't be the first time I've seen rain to the north and snow to the south ahaha that happens quite often with systems that get really wrapped up like this one.

Imagine this board and the OTI sanitarium if D.C. Gets snow while we rain. No way it's possible but it would be appropriate for this winter. I think we would lose CP/Lauler

6-8" of sleet? Frank is right. This storm can go to hell. And the NAM is showing another 7+ hours of snow after that.

35.6 and the slow steady drop in temperatures continues.
Of course what really seems to count with this one is the current 700mb -950mb temperatures above me right now and I have no clue what they are.

From hour 13 to hour 22, I'm in the heaviest sleet band. Then snow from hr 22-28. I'm not sure if I love this or hate it.

Re: January 22nd-24th Nor'easter Observations & Discussions
Good morning peeps and I see we have a mid 980's mb storm barreling up the coast. What happens when we have an easterly fetch over a couple tides - it gets exasperated multiplied in force and above normal heights due to the piling up of teh waters - dont have to tell those at the shore. I too worry that they did not adhere the warning of this storm.
Delayed but not denied. Storms really seem to crank and worsen at night IMO and from my personal meteorological experiences.
This will also help with the ice and snow accumulations for the N & W peeps on here.
Do not draw ANY such comparisons to Sandy she is in a league of her own.
Compare to Nor'easters and teh 1984 and 1992 comparisons are good one with 2010 as well.
Again look at the destruction down South to get a feel of the power of this beast. The STJ is not to be taken lightly and will feed this beast.
925 winds on 12 Z NAM are trop force for 14 hours over NYC Metro 40mph and gusts 50-60 mph.
From about 11PM till about 5AM looks to be the most intense time frame if I am reading the timestamp correctly

dry continues to bleed in. dew points in the upp 20's and low 30's across area. this will help cool column esp when heavy precip moves in.

Mike remember this is including sleet and freezing rain if any.
For this storm we need to look at soundings and see where the temps are at the different level/layers in teh atmosphere.
This storm is very complex and IF we had a cold High to our North then we would be using this map on a more literal snowfall basis.
thansk for posting it and it does look ominous for the interior.

The interior... that would be me. I live above the first 1 in the top 11 marker, about halfway up the county line.

Trending colder - so the delay will help out us snow weenies , except for LI folks and Shore line. Under heavy banding this will also help cool teh column down and allow things to accumulate. Looks like a sleetfest is in teh cards big time now. CMC has been on this for a week.
