On the south edge of Clinton Township its coming down good but think we are on the northern edge of that band.  Ppl in Flemington proper must be getting creamed.

We are definitely getting spanked in Flemington, but it's not puking snow like it did for a few hours during the last storm. But it's coming down at a good clip. Eyeball measuring close to 6 inches likely.

I think that's accurate. 15 miles south of me may get close to 10" out of this beauty.

Super Bowl Snowstorm, Part II: First Call - Page 9 Eto0wr10
Mesoscale Discussion 0065
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1040 AM CST Sun Feb 07 2021

Areas affected...Long Island through southeastern New England

Concerning...Heavy snow

Valid 071640Z - 072045Z

SUMMARY...Heavy snow is in the process of developing, with hourly
snow rates expected to maximize around to 2-3+ inches per hour by
2-4 PM EST across the Greater Providence and southern Greater Boston
Metropolitan areas.

DISCUSSION...Rapid deepening of a surface cyclone is now underway to
the east-northeast of the southern Mid Atlantic coast, as a 100 kt
cyclonic 500 mb jet streak, associated with a vigorous mid-level
short wave impulse, noses across the North Carolina coast. This
system is forecast to accelerate northeastward through this
afternoon, with continued rapid deepening of the cyclone, and
intensifying deep-layer frontogenetic forcing to its
north-northeast.

Periods of heavy snow have already been observed within the
developing frontal precipitation band across parts of southeastern
Pennsylvania into the Greater New York City area, with increasing
snow rates in the process of developing across Long Island and
southern New England. Latest model output suggests that forcing for
ascent will increasingly be aided by strengthening frontogenesis in
the 700-500 mb layer, across southeastern New England during the
18-21Z time frame.

Forecast soundings indicate that this will include the favorably
cold mixed-phase layer supportive of large dendritic ice crystal
growth, which may maximize across Rhode Island and southeastern
Massachusetts. This likely will include snow rates occasionally on
the order of 2 inches per hour, and at least some guidance appears
suggestive that an influx of lower/mid-level moisture may contribute
to weak destabilization supportive of convective bursts around 3+
inches per hour.

Temps are going to freefall this evening. Everything wet will be a sheet of ice. If you can mitigate that before the game starts it'll be easier.

If that band holds together over NJ moving into the ocean LI is going to get half a foot easily from it.

Red line looks to be the back edge of the coastal based on recent satellite imagery. Let’s see how it plays out!

Super Bowl Snowstorm, Part II: First Call - Page 9 50af6610

Also, Frank, nice maps!! Sorry I can’t add much discussion, just too busy. I’ll be trickling pictures in from my parents’ place from the last storm. Check that storm thread out for a prelude, for those interested.

Ahhh. Alright, I’ll be keeping an eye on it. Wink

Also noting some of the higher cloud tops on satellite this evening flaring from the north shore of Long Island back across north-central NJ. Wonder if heavier banding will be favored in that area. Smile

Hmmm. And there is a heavy band setting up right where those cloud tops where flaring last night
@rb924119 you might be on to something.

Super Bowl Snowstorm, Part II: First Call - Page 9 5bbf7a10

So, at least I’m not the only one who sees this in real time now haha I’m glad, because at least I know I’m not losing whatever little is left of my sanity lmfao but, I truly don’t know WHY this happens. It just does. For whatever reason, bigger events (which this has now clearly turned into for that zone we highlighted) telegraph these meso-scale (and sub-synoptic scale) features completely apart from what the atmosphere is doing, or supposed to do.

Just switched here on LBI too, though with temps near 40, not expecting much more than white rain with maybe a light accumulation on higher/colder surfaces.
