So, being good South Florida folk, we drove to Atlanta! It took 8-9 hours on i-75, there was snow and ice all over the roads and there were dozens and dozens of cars just littered across the Atlanta interstates having spun out or crashed the night before.
We finally got there safely, played football in the snow for 20 minutes (two layers of socks and high top sneakers did NOT keep our feet warm or dry) and then went to the Waffle House for hot chocolate/coffee. Then, about an hour or so after we got there, we drove back to Tally.
I guess an actual photo of a pit stop on the way up survived and was sent to me a few years back. So, that's me on the left with the blue 'winter jacket' on. The red car roof was my stick shift 91 Nissan Sentra which showed the heart of a champion that whole trip!!! So did Jen Bug to my right, she drove her little car up there too and I heard she was crying hysterically most of the way!
Another funny memory from this picture is that of course we stopped at BP for gas. Jen's BP charge card was her only means of support for her gas, groceries and beer cuz her mom was so mad after her previous grade report, she basically cut off any other financial support! lol What a fun time to be young!

on the morning of the storm I remember waking up to heavy snow and the winds were howling my parents told us to stay in the basement because they were worried about the windows breaking in.
Then by mid afternoon the snow changed to heavy sleet I remember hearing the sleet pounding my windows due to the wind .by later on of the day we finally went outside I was amazed how high the snow drifts were even though we only got 12 inches of .I know we had great snowstorm but my favorites were 93 96 03 09 and 11 to 14 I hope this upcoming winter we will have a fun snowy winter

I was on my way to New Orleans for a week’s vacation. Our flight was diverted to Houston because of the storm, where we spent the night, then flew to New Orleans the following morning. There was some snow on the ground there when we arrived, which was an exceptional occurrence. I called my mom at home in Parsippany NJ several times over the next couple of days and she kept saying “Still snowing!”. By the time I got back home, everyone was over it.

Going to old school "Seasonal" hours for winter. Who remembers these??
Schools will have to adjust for sure. Not a bad thing for a few reasons

My question is why does the story cont to change? What have they looked at this time to go up to 36miles? I believe the last update was like 100-120K feet or 18-22miles. There have been like 4-5 changes to the original estimate. So again what have they looked at this time that the prev 4 updates were unable to see such that they are now able to increase the est height by an additional 14-18 miles this time? It just doesn't add up. And as far as Kakatoa estimates, how accurate can it really be if modern day technologies cant even get the estimate correct? lol

Doc that is a great question and with ALL of the vast and advanced technologies we have today we still make errors and corrections ALL the time. I question the what to teh why all the time and the why to the what? If you notice NOAA and NASA just absolutely dropped this a week after it happened but other scientists, which practiced science and inquiry, kept investigating and got their hands on the cross section atmospheric models (paid for of course) and concluded this. Is it right? I would lean yes and from satellite imagery and this information it would be. Why keep it from the mass populous is teh next question? Of course not to cause people to dive to deep and surmise what can become next of course from past historical records of such.

Certainly some valid discussions here Mugs. I mean IF the most recent data is correct and this volcanic eruption did in fact reach up that high with its ash then using historic records and accepted scientific observations it does stand to reason that as this ash slowly makes its way around the globe and remains suspended in the upper reaches of the earths atmosphere that its reflective properties could, over time, lead to an overall cooling trend to the planet as a whole over next next 5-10yrs or so depending on just how much reflecting of the suns rays occurs. Again historically we can see this cause an effect relationship following major volcanic eruptions in the tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of years of historical temp records (ie: ice core data, tree ring data, core soil samples, etc).
Now it also stands to reason that IF, and this is an IF, there was a specific narrative or agenda being pushed by a group of powerful political and corporate leaders involving man made global warming as the sole cause for climate change, and that same group of people were using that specific narrative to change the world as we know it, (for better or worse), it would stand to reason that a major volcanic eruption or eruptions, that have historically caused global cooling, MIGHT offer an alternative explanation to a trend to cooler temperature outside the framework of the narrative. It would stand to reason that if a pleb like myself could think of the idea that , "IF the global temps cool over the next half decade or so give or take, we want the reason to be looked at by the masses as because of the policies measures that we great and powerful have implemented, and not that there were ANY alternate, perhaps naturally occurring forces, that could have triggered it on its own, or even in part contributed to the cooling." then surely the worlds elites pushing certain ideas about how things are might also be able to think along the same lines. Not to say this is def happening. Im just saying its not a conspiracy to think the idea is at least plausible.
DO NOT mistake my words. This does not mean that man made CO2 emissions are not part of the equation. This does not mean that humans arent polluting the planet in many other ways that need to be addressed as well. This does not mean that we cant do better and find ways to reduce our carbon foot print as a species. But what it does do is offers areas to go against a very specific and narrow minded narrative the likes of which seem to be being suppressed.
Again an intelligent person who thinks for themselves should be able to come to the conclusion that its not beyond the realm of possibility for a group looking to control how the globe operates wouldn't attempt to suppress an idea that challenges the ideas being touted; that there is only cause; therfore, one soln, to something as complex as the climate. This should be looked at the same way the idea that a person with natural immunity(involving innate AND adaptive immune responses as well as passive and active immune response) after recovering from say a virus, might have at least equal if not better protection than a person with just immunity from a vaccine that targets only one very specific component to an otherwise complex multifaceted pathogen.
This is not meant for any other reason than to make sure we all continue to think objectively about the information out there. If an individual, group of individuals, or certainly a group of politicians or corporate tech giants tell you there is only one soln to a complex problem, and that even the mere idea of having a discussion about possible negative outcomes to the one soln, or perhaps alternative solns it the same problem, even if the argument is being presented scientifically with supportive data and sound logic and such, prompts censorship, shaming, and or just simply ignoring/deplatforming; then that is the very area that WE THE MASSES must begin our quest for better understanding as to why its being censored or hidden from the discussion. DO NOT let someone else, on either side, tell you this is truth and simply believe it without doing your own investigation and critical analysis of both sides to the argument.
How many times have you gone and watched a movie or tried a meal that someone else you know and trust told you was horrible, only to find you actually found some enjoyment in the movie or the meal? Or visa versa; you were thinking the movie would be great or the meal to be amazing, only to go "meh, not for me" when you objectively tried it yourself. Not every time you do this will you find that enjoyment, but if you always take someone else's word for it you will never know what pleasures you might be missing.
That is all.

I will say this again, concerning the climate.Where I sit typing this in the LHV of NY, eons ago, I would be underwater. Then eons later, there would be 100 feet of ice....all before man ever set foot here.So just maybe, other factors beside man made elements , determine the climate.

If you were a kid from 6 to 18 in any Rockland county school that day you still remember it like it happened yesterday. It was chilling as the news spread throughout school. You couldn’t really believe it happened like you were hearing it. Remember no cell phones, internet or social media of any kind. Just your young mind trying to process what seemed unthinkable.

I was 21 at that time and can relate to what the writer says about age and time.I was living in Fort Lee NJ, a bit down the line from here, but the horrible and sad news was all over Bergen County as well. The first responders and survivors are scarred by the tragedy but also the railroad engineer that day must have been too.I had NJ Transit engineers as patients and I do know a tragedy like this would have made a deep impression. The writer did an amazing job , you can feel the love and care of the first responders and his wisdom concerning life. When you hit my age of almost 72, you thank the Good Lord for the time He has given you.Rest in peace for the victims and healing for those left with the terrible images of that day.

Also, have you noticed yet when shopping in the major grocery stores all the signs about supply chain issues, extreme weather and pricing fluctuations? It is becoming more prevalent and as I have harped on here for over a year food supply issues, shortages are coming and they may get pretty bad if not real bad. Why? Well, weather number one that has decimated some crops - South America looking at it lost its 60% of its Soybean crop and wheat is down by 12% as well. The bigger issue upcoming is teh fertilizer - Russia and Ukraine control 30% of all fertilizer, potash, phosphorous and insecticide agents and the worst chemicals of all 'Round Up" or the newly branded glyphosate which is round up in another form:
Glyphosate
Ranger Pro with 41% Glyphosate (same active ingredient as Roundup) is a complete broad spectrum non-selective post-emergent professional herbicide. Ranger Pro is the generic of Roundup Pro, and is equivalent and just as effective as the name brand, only much less expensive.
These are short in a big way and if this continues then we can see bigger worldwide food issues come the fall. Make suggestion is stock up on your canned goods, grains and pasta (flour), dry foods cellar like my grandparents had.

already done a lot of that and warned family and friends again.(they rolled their eyes..because i told them to stock up in Jan2020 and rest is history)I am looking at canning a bit as well.. jars were a little hard to find..but they came back into stock..I read that farmers are planting less. Other shortages as well going to get worse. Maripol was the location of one of the plants and Odessa the other.. that produce Neon..and we all know about Maripol. They said those plants closed right after the war started..who knows if the factory in Maripol is still standing. Ukraine is the supplier of 40-50 percent of the worlds neon.(another large producer is China)..Another reason Ukraine has to win! so more chip problems to come. Crazy times ahead.
