I like to analyze long-range ensembles in conjunction with historical analogs as a part of constructing a winter outlook. The JMA model projects strong (+) heights over Eastern Canada/Greenland in Dec, often a cold/stormy setup for the east coast. Very 2010-11 and 2000-01 like. pic.twitter.com/n0Blbz4yR3

This if VERIFIED is a powwow of a correlation and repeat of history.

Sadly I do not believe we have Mom. Like my buddy in Fort Myers Im sure she is displaced as Im pretty sure her area of Port Charlette area was equally affected as the Ft Myers region in terms of surge and winds, but I could be mistaken. I have only been able to speak with my buddy a couple of times briefly as he has been working his fingers to the bone gutting his house. Fortunately for him the main structure of the house is still intact, but everything in it was destroyed. He just sent me a pic last night with the inside of his house literally down to the frame.
I hate to be that guy but I did put a GoFundMe page together for my buddy and his family. If anyone out there is willing to donate awesome, but please by no means feel obligated. I'm casting as big a net as I can to try and help him get back on his feet. Me and my family are flying down there on the 21st to see what we can do to help.

Scott, I am so sorry for what your friend and family are going thru. I am sure they will appreciate your help! I contacted my ex and he and his family are all good..had damage, but from what I got from his text, they will be ok. I really hope Jts wife and family are ok. This is all just so devastating and bringing back bad memories of what we went thru in our communities 10 years ago.I will take a look at the go fund me page later today. This morning I am dealing with my first ever flea issue in the 30 years I have dogs.. . You would not like me as a patient right now.. I have done a ton of reading, torn apart the house, bought a new vacuum, and called the vets office 4 times in the last week...hahaha I think they like me..I take care of them with goodies..after they hear from me a few times....I just need to get thru this. I think we caught it early...fingers crossed. Ruby is so tiny I hate to put her thru all the chems(capstar, flea dip)you need to use to get rid of the mess. She sees the dawn bottle and runs..lol and I am taking her to groomers this morning to make sure she is all good..Dash survived his routine(capstar/dawn baths/new flea med) and I hope he is all good..yuck..we are in 2022 why is there not a better way to get rid of fleas??? Have a good morning and fingers crossed we get an update from our weather friend soon!

I got my license in 71. I had a used Dodge Dart 1960. No street cred. Cars were ancient in those days if they had ten years on them. I have a 2009 Hyunda with. 300,000 miles on it. I do all the car work. I keep them until the bitter end

ECMWF seasonal ensemble #Winter forecast is for a -NAO to dominate. We’re currently seeing a long term +PNA pattern in North America. If the +PNA gets together with this forecasted -NAO, this winter could be spectacular in the Eastern US. #wxtwitter pic.twitter.com/7qMLylaqdR

.
This on top of the MASSIVE Hunga Tonga VEI 6 volcanic explosion, the strongest since Tomba in the early 1800'a, we may have witnessed a volcanic winter in the SH or the beginning of it. The water vaopr and particulates are crossing over the equator and may just effect our sensible weather come winter as well.

Sorry to hear that Greybeard, the oil market is shaped by sentiment and that 60 cent bump is what you see.Far from what my Dad paid in the 1950's for heating oil, 17 cents a gallon. He switched to nat gas years later.Would that be a cheaper alternative? I realize the cost of switching would be high but nat gas is always there whereas oil is iffy.Come to think of it, my Dad switched right after the first oil embargo in 1973.
To be reliant on bad regimes for our oil is a crime when we were self sufficient a few years ago.Hope it all works out for you.

So Very true GreyBeard. Of course the kid in us, at least many of us, hopes for tons of cold and snow. But this year there seems to be much more at stake then normal. The fact that most of the world, including many Americans, believe that our corrupt government may have been responsible for sabotaging the Nord Stream pipeline(there is a fair amt of circumstantial evidence to support that) means that there will be many who want to turn their backs on us. Unless Biden decides to dip even further into our reserves, that's the only reason prices have dropped btw conveniently a month from elections, prices will likely shoot back way up for reasons you highlighted. Scary times. Don't let the smoke and mirrors the politicians are throwing at us fool you.

Those strategic reserves are only supposed to be used in a dire situation, like a complete shut off of oil coming here by unfriendly nations. From day one this administration has been hostile to oil and gas, to wit, shutting down Keystone. That created the SENTIMENT as I mention in my post above, for speculators in the oil market, to drive prices higher.A 11 year old kid who ran a lemonade stand for the summer, knows more about the economy and running a business than this 40 year career politician President we have. Now he has gone hat in hand to the murdering butcher Maduro in Venezuela to try and get oil.
OK, rant over, sorry to get political and I won't do it again, just venting the steam coming out of my ears,LOL.

I am going by more of a supply and demand perspective. We all know there will be more of a demand with the weather getting colder,so the demand will be there, but if there is less of a supply, resulting from OPEC's cut in the production, won't that drive the price up? I get your point about converting to gas but considering conversion costs and the fact that I might be relocating in the not too distant future, that's not really a viable option for me at this time.
I got an oil delivery back on September 22nd.@ $4.24 a gallon. A week later, the price dropped to $4.05. Then they announced the cutback in production, and boom, price today is $4.57. It's always a very volatile market that usually surges at this time of year.
Scott, I love a good snowstorm as much as anybody. Just not a big fan of extended cold spells where I hear my furnace constantly running day and night. Here's hoping we all get thru the winter without having to dig too much deeper in our pockets.

Understood about the gas conversion, you would have to stay in the home many years to make that worthwhile.About the only thing I can say is keep the thermostat at 65 during the day and wear sweaters, and 62 at night.I can handle that easy as I run hot but understand that as we get older, people want it warmer. The last year I helped care for my elderly Mom in her home she wanted it at 75.I walked around in shorts and a t shirt in the middle of winter there,LOL.Also, maybe consider a boiler tune up with a smaller nozzle to try and use less oil.A good HVAC guy might help out there.

I am not a big fan of Russia, but if we blew up that gas line, I would consider that an act of war if I was on the Russian side. Not only that, it is an idiotic thing do do if Putin was removed or the war was settled. Now Europe suffers from a shortage of nat gas this winter.
Anyway,I think after a bumpy 10 years coming up, a very bright future for everybody is in store.New technologies will make life interesting. This META verse thing is amazing.Plus, with AI and EV's,you would not even have to own a car.You call up a central depot of EV;s with your device, and a driverless EV is at your door for wherever you want to go or whatever you want to do! You don't need auto repair, car insurances and you can use the space in your garage to add to your living area.In spite of the negativity now, I remain optimistic for the longer term.
