The moderators and I have set up a set of criteria that would put this forum in Storm Mode when the time presents itself.

Winter Storm Systems

A) Must be a event with a high probability of snowfall greater than 6 inches (instant Storm Mode)
B) Must be a event with high probability of ice/ sleet accumulations of .10 inches or more
C) Includes the chance for hazardous coastal flooding (surge)
D) Includes the chance for dangerous and damaging winds
E) Includes prolonged snow/rain events (e.g. 2 or more clippers hitting area within a week or a prolonged rain event)

(Minimum 2 of 5 criteria must be true for Storm Mode)

Rain or Tropical System

A) When a named or numbered system threatens to make direct landfall in the tri-state area
B) When a system threatens to drop 2-3+ inches of widespread rain
C) When a system threatens to hit the area with dangerous and damaging winds in excessive of 45mph
D) When a system threatens to damage coastal communities with flooding and high surge/surf

(Minimum 2 of 4 criteria must be true for Storm Mode)

Severe Weather

A) When a hazardous weather outlook is issued for greater than 50% of coverage area
B) Anytime a tornado watch/warning is issued for the area

(Any of these 2 criteria are true for Storm Mode)

I'll make a decision at least 24 hours prior to storm impact whether or not it requires the forum to enter Storm Mode. The point of Storm Mode is for members of the board to recognize instant awareness that a potent storm will hit the area. Also, this forum gives me the chance to send out a mass email alert to all registered users, which I will take advantage of when the opportunity arises.

Thank you for being part of NJ Strong Wx forum
