Currently 25° and it feels so much warmer what a difference the March sun makes

F the March sun Skins. Very Happy

Syos excellent point about the overlap combine the two years and we would have had 95-96 on steroids.

Mugs: yourself Frank and Sroc did a first rate job on this late season pattern change. This late January through March period has definitely made up for the December from hell and the first half of January from purgatory.

Although I can't forget the November pattern was great.  A foot of snow for the month, a  white Thanksgiving with 10 inches on the ground and trees bending over from the weight of the snow so it's really been a three pattern winter in the HV.

I need one more one footer up here and I can grudgingly accept spring although if I can hold it off to the middle of April I'll always gladly do it.

I am moving some threads from this winter to the archive section. Besides yesterday's storm and Juno, any other good threads worth moving?

The streak continues, 39 straight days with 6"+ snow depth in Central Park, 2nd longest ever.
Also tied a record low (12*) at Newark, set a new record low (12*) at JFK, & Bridgeport (9*)
Probably some others I cant remember.

The records 53 right? Doubtful we can do it but with one more decent storm say 8-12 it may be possible. The time of year is working against us.

Yeah, looks we're locked into 2nd.
Another big snowfall that'd be best March of my life..snow wise.
Snow depth is 19" as of today.

So apparentely NOAA is using Alaska in the overall winter temps to skew the mean so that it looks like we had an average or warmer than average winter (what their winter outlook predicted). This is a problem because it's very rare that both the lower 48 and Alaska are cold at once. They did NOT do this in winter 2011-2012. Alaska has been very warm the entire winter...that's just wrong

They can't even get snow measurement at CPK right without a bunch of us here bombarding them with e mails.Left to their own devices, CPK would be under 35 inches now. That being said, I wouldn't trust them with anything as important as overall winter temps.

Low this morning 2.7 and it's already up to 25.0

It looks like yesterdays low here of -2.2 will be the last sub zero of the winter.

Consider that geographically I'm only 45 miles due north of Central Park yet since Jan 29th I've recorded 16 sub zero mornings. 1 in January, 13 in February, and 2 in March. What an incredible stretch of cold. People in Minneapolis would be complaining about a stretch like this. The February average temperature here was 6 degrees colder than the February average in Minneapolis. In NYC it was 2.5 degrees above the average in Minneapolis.

I never got anywhere near the -23 we recorded in January 1994, -10 was the coldest I recorded, but it was a far longer stretch of well below normal than that historic outbreak.

I got a little carried away here with observations here so I I guess I'll copy this into Maths winter thread.

In the last 15 years (2000-2015), NYC has seen 510" of snow (34" a year); That's the highest since 1892-1907; Well before the urban developmen

Some flurries this afternoon - the last 5 out of 6 six days we have snow of some sort - amazing. Cold out there - the wind with the cloudy skies and beautiful white landscape - this feels like Jan or early Feb - historic in my book.

This radar is by far the best at showing what is actually reaching the ground, nailed the last storm I think.
