4” here. Snowing moderately.  The compaction is incredible.  It snows hard for 20 minutes and piles up. Then it slows down and melts and compacts in front of your eyes. We’ve had enough snow that at 10:1 we would be close to 8 or so inches.  Instead we are like 5 or 6:1 ratios

Up to 34” for the season. Above normal somehow

About 5" here total most likely. Compacting quickly, incredibly dense snow, trees look like they have leaves they're so covered and drooping. Outages probably a concern. None here right now though.

No stop I was showing the rgem off metocenter maps if you recall that we were getting nuked. You said in your such optomositic way that it wasn't a nuke as per the TT maps and besides the rgem had TT maps had purple barney of 6" over my area. You and Math are need to be sent OTI secror 13 for a few days!!

End of discussion.

PS still snowing here and heavy!!

I can here the dripping of melting snow soon as the intensity dropped off. Around 4", compacting to a couple slushy inches now. Fast and furious event. Enjoy while you can.

Alex called it gang! What an awesome storm! 9.2" is a fab surprise. With temps holding at 32° everything should clear nicely for the road crews tonight and have clear roads tomorrow.

FEB 17th-18th Snow? Sleet? Rain? - Page 14 Empty Re: FEB 17th-18th Snow? Sleet? Rain?

Post by Math23x7 Sun Feb 18, 2018 1:18 am

As I mentioned before, I went to Woodlawn/Yonkers/Wakefield earlier tonight to get in on not only heavier snowfall but also stickage on pavements, which I got!!!

Anyway, Just after midnight, I went to Central Park and measured the snow where I measured the 1/4 and 1/17 snow amounts. James was mentioning earlier the compaction of snow from this system. The snow had tapered off and started to melt by this time so I measured around 2" give or take. It was a slushy measurement too. I know the NWS snow updates are at 7 PM and 12 AM so hopefully the Conservancy took a measurement in between. I'm not holding my breath though...

Well the amounts were just posted and CPK comes in at 4.4". SO I guess they took compaction and melting into account to measure 3.4" after 7 PM. Given the other three NWS station totals between 7 PM and 12 AM (EWR 2.2 since 7 PM for a 2.8" total; JFK 2.1" since 7 PM for a 2.1" total; LGA 3.6" since 7 PM for a 3.9" total), this seems reasonable. CP, I would like to hear your thoughts.

By the looks of outside for me the storm finished with rain. Maybe 2 inches of very wet almost frozen snow on colder surfaces. Driveway has maybe a 1/4”

Love those pics. Wet snow (while bad for power lines, and my back when shoveling) always makes for the picturesque scenes.

FEB 17th-18th Snow? Sleet? Rain? - Page 14 Empty Re: FEB 17th-18th Snow? Sleet? Rain?

Nice storm in this horrendous pattern. The king NAM nailed it again. If I remember right it was showing about 3-5” for the city and LI and 6-8” just west and north.

Area wide 4-9” not too shabby. Enjoy it’ll be gone by tomorrow. Mugs great pictures. Love the American flag with all the white behind it. But you still called 3-5” a nuke which it’s not tongue

Heading down to Williamsburg VA with the family for 6 days. Temps Tuesday Wednesday in the mid to upper 70’s. Outdoor swimming and tons of golf hopefully. 10 families going down
