Look at that deep tropical moisture fetch for this system. Yeah Yeah I know its the start of the winter but the moisture feed orginates from the trop pac and Central America. Its an impressive system.

Agreed. Gotta respect Mother Nature - that's a very cool image to see where all the rain that's currently falling on us is originating.

But is it was cold enough we wouldn’t get the storm. That’s how it is

Re: December 2018 Observations and Discussions
Well at least we can end the narrative after today oh how cold a December this has been with no snow to show for it.
After today the month of December will officially be above normal so far at every reporting station in the NYC reporting area, including Newark, Bridgeport and LI.

CP. I don’t care what the stations report. IMBY there were 14 days so far there the temp never got above 43 degrees and 8 days were it didn’t get above 40. Also there were 12 morning low temps in the low 20s and 4 others below freezing. It hasn’t been above normal here not by a long shot.

Re: December 2018 Observations and Discussions
Most places it was 40mph gusts highest, LI had a gusts to 65mph and 57mph. There was very scattered outages and a big tree came down not to far from me but other than that it was flooding, I stopped by my hometown in CT and wow the sound looked like the regular ocean, big waves and I had just missed the high tide which was over the road and closed the dock area, here in westchester the golf courses are under rain water and bronx river parkway among others had major flooding. If this had only been snow.SoulSingMG wrote:Yawn. Boring storm. No wind imby. #ThankUNext

I've had it with these drenching rainstorms. They have been causing havoc with my outdoor xmas lights. Can't wait for the pattern change.jmanley32 wrote:Most places it was 40mph gusts highest, LI had a gusts to 65mph and 57mph. I suppose we could just ignore the facts and verified data and just say this December the temperatures are way below normal even though they are exactly normal or slightly above for the month once today ends.
I mean if people can change their gender, age, and race now just because they feel like a boy today and a girl tomorrow, or today they feel black and tomorrow they feel white, or the man in Oregon who's suing the government because they say on his official documents he's 68 but he feels 45, why can't we just say what we feel the weather was for the month and just go with that.
It's a new world and a new way to look at things. Why should facts dictate what's correct. How do we really know 1 + 1 = 2, maybe we've been brainwashed all these years and it equals 11. I'm willing to listen to new ideas.

Amazing post CP! Yesterday I felt like I was 18 years old and tried to run up the stairs but my 68 year old arthritic knees brought me back from out of the Twilight Zone,LOL.There was an old song way back when "I Can Dream Can't I"!!! Now I know how the old timers in my day back in the 60's felt when Boomers were running around with long hair, smoking weed in public and listening to Heavy Metal music in regards to now what we are seeing culturally.
Things quiet and calm after the howling rainstorm yesterday with a hope of some mood flakes on Christmas Eve morning.

Not too calm at the shore, Doc. Winds are kicking up into 20s, gusting into the 30s at times. That with a drop of > 10* in temp from yesterday has it feeling kind of wintery again down here.
"with a hope of some mood flakes on Christmas Eve morning."
And Santa, PLEASE bring me some of Doc's everlasting, genuine optimism. I'm tired of being cranky cuz it don't snow. I would love to actually have a hope for mood flakes. How do you do it Doc?

Doc, CP-very funny. I propose we cast away our years and cares and we assemble at the Galleria Mall off 84 to don NJStrongWeatherForum t-shirts, do the Electric Slide in sync, and go back to the roots of our youth. Failing that, we hit the nearest watering hole, knock back a few, and watch the world go by.

Re: December 2018 Observations and Discussions
Gusty winds this morning ushered in colder temps around these parts. 42* with 15 mph right now, so wind chills in the 30s. I expect the temp not to rise much, maybe a degree or two, then drop into the 20s tonight. As for the snow . . . it will arrive when it chooses, but the odds are growing in its favor as we approach the last week of the month.

Doc. Perhaps if it were the Macerana option one would be more enticing?
