People in these areas should begin preparing for severe winter weather. Further updates will be issued should Othelias condition continue to improve.

Excellent post.  I’m pleased Uptown made the call to cut back on so called science and used proper guidance methods.  If only.  If only.  Back in 1888 it was rumored that if Chartwell the Chipmunk, of Blue Ball, Pennsylvania legend, saw his own nuts at moonrise,  than a massive blizzard was imminent. It was ignored, and needless to say, history tragically speaks for itself.  The old timers used to recite by the campfire tales of competitive predictions by Chartwell and his best friend Phil.  The duo split up after Phil was caught stealing forecasts and hurridly skipped town to Punxsutawney.

Excellent story. Phil's a fraud as I've always suspected, and as your story clearly shows.

* TIMING...This is where the 40 lines we are currently studying become ambivalent. The lines "A voice from North Jersey will return from Spain, his return will mark the beginning of wintry pain" followed by "After February 12 the north wind will blow, and something will go wrong with the MJO".

We believe the man from North Jersey referred to in the poem returns February 12 but after that the reference to AFTER February 12 the north wind will blow and the reference to a change in the MJO seem contradictory. Will this period of harsh winter weather begin on February 12 or afterward? For this reason we have included February 12 and the 7 week period afterward in the warning time frame.

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected throughout the area with most of the precipitation falling as snow.

Also included in the poem are the lines "As the month we call March comes to an end, and the snow for the season reaches 110". We cannot discern the authors precise meaning here. Is the 110 reference for the period after February 12 through March 31, or include any snow that has fallen to this date? Also unclear is what area beyond Orange County this includes. These ambiguities prevent us from precise accumulation totals. For now we are going with a general total snow accumulation through the end of March of 50 to 100 inches. The higher amounts N&W of NYC and lower amounts near the coast. Winds will gust gust as high as 55 mph in some storms throughout this period.

I do miss the old Island but I do have January 1, 2079 circled on my calendar. I'm hoping 118 years old will be considered middle age by then when we can reclaim the homeland.

Damian, OTI was nuked by our Former Assistant Director of The OTI Sanitarium and Director of the Coconut Lounge Syosnow, who descended into terminal melancholia and neurosis as a result of too much Hopium ingested looking at long range models that failed to produce.Right now, you need a lead suit to visit, but as CP noted we are scheduled for re-opening in 2079, so you are very welcome at that time to visit.Drop me a line in 2079.

Hadn’t really considered it but I guess I could still be alive at OTI’s re-opening. Barely. But it’s possible. With my diet though I expect to fall about 35 years short of that.

* WHY.... After studying in detail lines 7525 through 7564 of the Tale of Orange Ophelia we have decided to issue a rest of the winter weather advisory for the entire forecast area.

Although some uncertainty remains regarding several ambiguous lines of the epic poem, we are confident that Othelia will fully recover and the forecast for a difficult, prolonged period of winter weather will prevail.

* TIMING...This is where the 40 lines we are currently studying become ambivalent. The lines "A voice from North Jersey will return from Spain, his return will mark the beginning of wintry pain" followed by "After February 12 the north wind will blow, and something will go wrong with the MJO".

We believe the man from North Jersey referred to in the poem returns February 12 but after that the reference to AFTER February 12 the north wind will blow and the reference to a change in the MJO seem contradictory. Will this period of harsh winter weather begin on February 12 or afterward? For this reason we have included February 12 and the 7 week period afterward in the warning time frame.

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected throughout the area with most of the precipitation falling as snow.

Also included in the poem are the lines "As the month we call March comes to an end, and the snow for the season reaches 110". We cannot discern the authors precise meaning here. Is the 110 reference for the period after February 12 through March 31, or include any snow that has fallen to this date? Also unclear is what area beyond Orange County this includes. These ambiguities prevent us from precise accumulation totals. For now we are going with a general total snow accumulation through the end of March of 50 to 100 inches. The higher amounts N&W of NYC and lower amounts near the coast. Winds will gust gust as high as 55 mph in some storms throughout this period.

In further discussions we will discuss additional references in the poem regarding the AO, NAO, EPO and PNA. We are still trying to determine whom the other individuals referenced are notably, RB, the vet from LI, the man from North Jersey and the discerning voice from the Island that is long, to see if they can add further insights into their part in this mid 1700's prognostication. At the end of this discussion will we post the 40 lines of the tale of Orange Ophelia that we are currently basing our predictions on, with bold highlights of the lines used in our current discussion.

* WHERE....The entire NYC and Tri state area

* WHEN...From 12 AM Tuesday to midnight EST Sunday night, March 31

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions and impassable roads at
 times during heavier snow. The hazardous conditions could impact any of the
 morning and evening commutes through the time period. Precipitation will most
 likely be in the form of snow through most of the period.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Rest of the Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. Stock up on eggs and milk because these staples hold up so well when areas lose power and they cannot be refrigerated.

During the reign of Othelia number 67
A sudden illness will almost send her to heaven

A man will appear from the Island quite long

I do miss the old Island but I do have January 1, 2079 circled on my calendar. I'm hoping 118 years old will be considered middle age by then when we can reclaim the homeland.

Unfortunately, though, and unlike last year, I will not be able to say “I told you so”.
I threw in the towel a while ago.
However, those you saying OTI is dead, may need some new eyeballs to put into your head.
For myself, not once a member of that illustrious crew, it seems quite clear, the thread is renewed.
With all of the chatter from heretofore, its supposed “nuking” can be referenced no more.
For in our hearts, minds and spirits, as is easily read, the Coconut Island is still healthy and not dead.
May it continue to live on, forever and ever, so in winters like this, we can refrain from being too bitter.
It will make us laugh so we forget our plight, for winters like these, can leave quite the bite.

Hospital Update on Orange Othelia:

Orange Countys groundhog Othelia was released from Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown today. The doctors gave her a clean bill of health which means her prediction from February 2nd stands. To confuse matters Othelia held up a sign before she took off for the surrounding woodlands. I'm not sure what she was trying to say. Was she saying she lied about the coming severity of the next several weeks and it will be worse than even predicted, or she just lied about the whole thing? Possibly it was just an F U to her failed assassin. I guess we find out in the next several weeks.

Rest assured the Orange County government crack staff is combing through the 10,000 line poem as we speak, searching for additional clues.
