Super-typhoon Tip. I believe it got down to 878 hPa or 876 hPa with estimated sustained winds in excess of 230 mph. This isn’t even close. There was one a few years back, Haiyan, also in the western Pacific that came close but didn’t get there. I think it got down to 886 hPa and sustained winds of 225 mph.

Just saw a tweet by Phillip Klotzbch. Since 1950 3 Atlantic hurricanes have had max winds stronger than Dorians of 180 mph. Allen (1980 190) Gilbert (1988 185) and Wilma 2005 (2005 185). Does not mention pressure.

Hurricane Wilma, 2005, got down to 882 hPa (885 hPa, maybe?). Somewhere in there. Again, not even close right now lol

How many actually made landfall at that strength though?
This thing is right the shore now and still strengthening.

Re: 2019 TROPICAL SEASON
Wow. 180 mph gusts to 205 mph. Currently the 5th strongest Atlantic basin hurricane of all-time according to a list I just saw. Not many structures on the Bahamas won’t be wiped out or severely damaged by that.

Re: 2019 TROPICAL SEASON
Wind gusts are 225 mph
Storm surge is 20-25'
Highest pint of Grand Bahama elevation is 48'
Put 30-50' waves onto and you have just annihilation.
This is a sheer humanity disaster for these people.
Anyone see how the gfs tries to phase him by us? A few hours earlier and oh boy!!

Definitely something to watch, the Gfs has been coming closer each run with that interaction. 12z CMC is very close as well

Re: 2019 TROPICAL SEASON
Also how much does the fact that the GFS pressure initializes almost 50mb too high? I would imagine this could change model track from reality etc?
