Holy Ice Batman.

Told my peeps at school and they were like nah, this morning OH Duck. Should have delayed but....the higher ups now better and to boot the Buildings n Grounds Supervisor emails us atb6:45 and says, " Be careful there are some slick spots in the parking lot because we are awaiting rock salt to be spread from the town". U fricking kidding me?!!

About 1/2 dozen students had accidents on the way besides teachers. Bad call and they knew but are also leary about Fridays storm.

When you least expect it!!

Many injuries in the accidents this morning including two Newark Police Officers. It appears a 59 year old woman from Old Bridge was killed in one of the accidents when a garbage truck couldn't stop on the ice and struck her vehicle. Just goes to show, sometimes a two or three hour period of freezing rain can cause an outsized amount of chaos.

People need to realize the real danger of even a brief period of even light freezing rain. So sad that people were injured and killed today

When a person is younger, a gamble seems less dangerous than to an older person. We see enough and stand down. It has iced up here. I’d be surprised if people were out on the roads but it’s human nature often not to notice danger

It was very icy here earlier this morning, enough so that Parsippany schools closed for the day. The police tweeted there were many calls regarding accidents, and Route 10 was closed for a while due to an accident.

But now it’s just raining and all the ice seems to have melted.

Had some light rain but down here in the LHV, no ice.Went out to do a few chores and nothing slippery just wet.

Horrible accidents in yonkers and other parts of westchester. Do not need a full blown ice storm to cause a lot chaos, in fact the full blown ice storms seem to see far less accidents ironically. At least one fatality on cross county parkway exit 4.

Oh it was icy, just not at that time, it was like 6am or so. It thawed out quick, no way it was icy here and not up there, that wouldnt make sense climo wise.

A weak front coming through late Sunday could start as mixed precip before changing to rain. Those N&W may even see rain change to snow at some point. Doesn’t really matter…it all looks very light. Low impact.

HRRR and 3k NAM looking a little icy even down to the coast for Sunday. Sometimes models are underdone with cold once snowpack is on the ground.

Alex absolutely adn I will argue to the end of the day that 4-6" of snowpack that will freeze hard overnight WILL decrease temps adn will not allow the air to modify as some expect. I said this morning that we have another ice event one Sunday night into Monday morning and watch teh SR models (mesos) and sounding for this it can be real bad. EPA, HV and NWNJ look to get it good as well as parts of NNJ

For reference this day last year I had measure 5.75" of white gold, by today I measure 6.5" and we are about to enter a great few week period with many possible BIGLY storms and brutal cold.

You think models could be too warm over LI given the snowpack? Sure were on Wednesday and that didnt even have a snowpack

Yes they can and we saw this is 14-15, 17-18 and last year in February as well.

We will have to see. More pack on the ground by tuesday, the colder those super low temps will be.

New NAM picking up on the ice. Peeps better start to take notice it maybe bad I mean real bad. It's coming in faster which means we have cold dense arctic air over a snowpack. Never bodes well.

Perfect ending for the Giants last game of the season at Met Life. Hope it does come in during the day, more people should be home and not on the roads. Would be better than into Monday morning, which is what it was looking like earlier.
