Does anyone else find it disconcerting that once in 50 year, 100 year and 500 year weather events are happening ever year now

TWC app () shows a high temperature next Saturday of 23 degrees and mostly sunny. Next Sunday - 43 degrees and rain. This is getting borderline cruel.

Well NYC now holds the record of 33 consecutive days of above normal temperatures, shattering the old mark of 31 and we will extend it to 34 today.
It only seems fitting that during this horrendous streak of fall like weather in what was once a season called winter that NYC officially set the longest snowless streak too.
I’m trying to think of what other miserable streaks NYC could set this extended Fall, possibly the most consecutive days with rain. I’ll have to see what that one is, I’m sure NYC can break that maybe mid February through mid March.

There’s just nothing going on. Sub zero Friday, who cares a one day cold shot. Meaningless without snow on the ground. This may be my earliest exit ever for summer hibernation. I’m running out of things to try.

Embrace the nice warm spring weather, since it won't snow this year, might as well look forward to being outside enjoying the sunshine!

Re: Banter Thread 8.0
Is there anyone else that would rather see the snowless streak / record not end over a minuscule 1/10 of an inch of measurable snow that could potentially fall tomorrow? In all seriousness, let's end this awful record if it means a substantial snowfall is on the horizon. Otherwise - I'm ehhh on ending this streak as a result of just over a trace of snow from a light event.
Weird - I know.
The extended period looks warm once we get through this potential light snow event tomorrow and an upcoming bone dry but cold Friday / Saturday. At least an ongoing record gives us something crazy to continue to talk about.

I'd have to agree at this point it's much more interesting to have no measurable snow from DC to NYC than a few inches that most likely will somehow sneak in before season's end.crippo84 wrote:Is there anyone else that would rather see the snowless streak / record not end over a minuscule 1/10 of an inch of measurable snow that could potentially fall tomorrow? DC has already had winters with no measurable snow but NYC's lowest ever is the 2.8 inches from 72/73. Even if they break the streak they will have a very real shot at that 2.8 the way things are playing out.
Also throw in that in all likelihood NYC had measurable snow on December 11th but Central Park just didn't measure, very common for them. Newark and LaGuardia both recorded measurably snow on that day. Central Park is right in the center of both.

Absolutely correct CP, there had to be something on Dec 11 being between two areas that recorded snow.
This terrible streak broken on Jan 29th would not have happened. There must be people who took photos or videos of the park that day to record a wintery landscape. The proof would be right there.

Woke up to a dusting of snow on cars and grassy surfaces in East Village, Manhattan. Streets and sidewalks completely clear. Certainly 1/10 an inch. The streak will end over this weak ass snowfall haha. Didn't even get to see it come down!
I hope we're all entertained lol. Dry cold followed by extended warm on the horizon.

Personally I think it underscores how bad this season has been. May have been under reported have no idea, but my guess is there are web cams that may have some evidence.docstox12 wrote:CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:heehaw453 wrote:I'd have to agree at this point it's much more interesting to have no measurable snow from DC to NYC than a few inches that most likely will somehow sneak in before season's end.crippo84 wrote:Is there anyone else that would rather see the snowless streak / record not end over a minuscule 1/10 of an inch of measurable snow that could potentially fall tomorrow? I don’t think it matters at this point. If they didn’t measure .1 or .2 inches of snow on December 11th, which in all likelihood they did not, it would be the least egregious error they have made during the last 150 years of scrooing uo historic snowfalls.
It all began with the 21 inches recorded during the blizzard of 1888 when Brooklyn recorded 36 inches and just north of the city recorded 40, 48 in Albany and 58 in Saratoga. All pictures from Manhattan clearly show the city received at least three feet of snow but that 21 has stood through time. Since then Feb 78, blizzard of 1996, Feb 1983, Boxing Day 2010, so many other mistakes and so little time.
Don’t make me go down this path. It’s painful.

To show just how much temperatures have changed in the last several decades this January NYC had an average temperature of 43.5 the highest ever on record as Heehaw already noted.
During March 1888 which I noted in the last post began the era of under counting snowfall beginning with the historic Blizzard of 88, the average temperature in March 1888 in NYC was 29 degrees.
