There are natural cycles of this planet and solar system, some we have happening now. Some area have had more and some less, the ebb n flow of our planet. Reason being te tonic plate shifts and local building, hence reclamation projects on "land" I to areas as I explained above building.

Again it is not the only time we have been told this about sea level rise the past 30 years plus but I can produce numerous articles  but they will be discredited by x, y, z.  I am not paying for a tax on this agends, those who believe can be my guest. Florida is as flat as a pancake and the build up along the waterways has been off the charts the last 30 years. When you build on a flood plain then do t cry about flooding. If folks are so concerned then why do so many buy next to the ocean and its tributaries, lagoons, bays?? Wby did Obama, Kerry, Waters, etc etc ALL have homes that are right on the ocean just yards from it. Obama has 2 su h homes, Kerry as a couple as well, our Climate Change Czar. When you buy a house next to an airport don't complain about the noise. Thousands of such examples of this building on the ocean and its waterways that are not meant to be built on. I guess that's what Eugenics is a major push by the elites and WEF of Schwab and his minions, depoplulate the planet. If you have never heard of this look it up, they have a plan to shrink the world's population of overall, ots not conspiracy  truth. Many involved in this from this country.

Anyway, we have a difference here for sure and that is fine.

Bless you all on this fine Sunday.

but Mugs .2" per year is significant by itself. If you own property near the shore a number like that can get kind of scary real quick. My family friends have had a house on LBI for 50+ years and they now have to check the tides when coming and going by car.

And the last 30 years of NASA satellite data tell us the rate of rise is accelerating...
https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/150192/tracking-30-years-of-sea-level-rise

As somebody who lives on the island, and who has spent my entire life coming here (granted, only 31 years compared to your family’s 50+), I can agree that flooding has become notably worse. BUT, to the best of my recollection, it only became notably worse AFTER Sandy, which tells me that in our particular case, it’s more of a result from storm debris still clogging up the sewers (which were never flushed after the storm to clear away all of the sand and bay mud, plus whatever else is in there), and a shallower bay bottom thanks to all the displaced sand from the original beaches and dunes being flattened. I’d be willing to bet that if they actually flushed the sewers and were allowed to dredge the bay back to its pre-Sandy bottom, the seemingly increased flood events would drastically decline. But thanks to all kinds of government red tape, talk of dredging the bay is pretty much pointless.

Just my opinion, though Smile

Funny you posted this Pete.  Ive seen this too.  That said what does it mean?
On Monday, the average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 Fahrenheit), the highest since records began. On Tuesday, it climbed even further, to reach 17.18 degrees Celsius. The previous record of 16.92 degrees Celsius was set in August 2016.

When I see who is reporting this as news I immediately question if its fits a certain narrative.  ie: what's the angle.  Well CNN's angle will always be forever and ever this:

The new global average temperature record is another wake-up call, Otto told CNN. “It just shows we have to stop burning fossil fuels, not in decades, now. This day is just a number, but for many people and ecosystems it’s a loss of life and livelihood.”

But look at it from another angle.  The data from the amount of water vapor expelled into all layers of our atmosphere compliments of the Hong Tonga volcanic eruption still linger and have huge impacts on temps via increased water vapor in the atmosphere.  If you havent seen the video I posted above please do and please note specifically what the Hadley, Ferrel, and polar circulations are.

The result of increased water vapor in the air from this specific volcano eruption, the coming basin wide el nino, the warm atlantic ocen, and these 3 circulations across the planet you will carry this moisture poleward.  The result are temp anomaly maps that look like this currently over Antarctica:

And here is the actual temps.  The entire area is still below and well below freezing despite being well above normal.  So this really isnt "hot"; yet it contributes a huge amount on that "record breaking global temp" CNN writes about.

On top of that the temps are warm over the regions of both the equatorial pacific and Atlantic again due to the oncoming Nino and warm AMO cycle you can see where the main warm anomalies are located.

If you look at the land masses in the southern and northern hemispheres the warm and the cold anaomalies are essentially a wash

But the CNN's of the world will have one angle and one angle only:

A searing heat wave in India killed at least 44 people across the state of Bihar. China, too, has experienced several blistering heat waves and it registered the highest number of hot days – where the maximum daily temperature exceeded 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) – over a six-month period since records began.

But they wont report on areas like Vegas who set an all time record for consecutive days under 100*.
https://news.yahoo.com/las-vegas-breaks-temperature-record-191148704.html

Temperatures in Las Vegas maxed out at 98 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday, extending the city's streak of consecutive sub-100-degree days to 294.

Once again man contributes to the global big picture.  There is no question about this, but damn it kills me to see articles like this that clearly have one angle only.  Except for a brief mention of El Nino that CNN article is not reporting anythig but the leftist narrative. To discuss any of this other stuff is simply unheard of by these media groups.
When you dont report all the facts, and all the angles, its no longer journalism, it becomes propaganda.

Want to know why I question anything ANY media outlet or politician has to say these days; Esp when there is a very clear and obvious slant on one aspect of some science?

This video is from 1984. Mr. Bezmenov was a Soviet informant and KGB operative who defected to the United States in the early 70s. In an increasingly difficult to find 1984 interview with G. Edward Griffin titled “Deception Was My Job”, he laid out the four stages of “ideological subversion” created by radical Marxists to indoctrinate and weaken nations from within.

Do your best to listen to this objectively and then make up your own mind.

Doc, I have seen this before and it is straight from the horses mouth, a KGB agent.Marxists in this country are working 24/7 through Public Schools, Colleges, Hollywood, and the Mainstream Media.I am 72 and have seen all this progressing from the 60's to now.Not going to get into anything to do with politics so as not to upset people. They should all do their own research on this matter and decide for themselves. One thing to remember, however. You can vote yourself into socialism (Venezuela) but you have to shoot your way out.

You beat me to this, Scott lol take out the red paint bomb over the poles during their respective winters (thanks to increased water vapor, as you stated), and what happens? The globe is near average.

Want further evidence that contradicts the CO2 argument? CO2 should be uniformly raising temperatures, right? Day/night, summer/winter….? We hear all these stories about rising temperatures in the summer. How come it’s only nighttime lows that have warmed and not daytime highs over the last decades? Because just like the anomalous warmth at the Poles during their winter, increased water vapor (dew points) are preventing the radiational cooling at night. However, because there’s more water vapor, it also means that it takes more energy to warm the air. So theoretically this should mean that daytime highs should remain steady state, or even decline, on the average. Look at the actual data, and that is exactly what you see. It has to do with thermal energy, and water vapor is many times more abundant and efficient than CO2 could ever be. When you see these graphics about “warming temperatures”, they don’t tell you what temperatures are being skewed. The nighttime lows are the metric that’s warming on the whole, not the highs. If CO2 was the culprit, the temperatures should be warming uniformly.

Absolutely negligible temperature increase last couple of years. Plateaus out.

Beside Hunga Tonga the Kamchatka Volcanoes that went off in a fee months ago with the wildfires are adding to the cooling and rains we are seeing. The pattern is most definitely entrenched the rest of this month. Calls for hot summers are slowly in jeopardy but increasingly failing each day.

What facts did CNN get wrong? Is their data incorrect?

I'm noting a pattern here. I post a perfectly reasonable, factual link from a completely credible news organization citing facts and data, gathered by scientists and published for public scrutiny and the response here is consistently an attack on the source of the story, rather than a challenge to the data or the conclusions made from that data.

The notion that I should not trust "the media" because a KGB guy told us how the Soviets had a formula for deceiving the masses seems like a really really big disconnect. "The media" is made up of a million different people saying a million different things, and we agree with some, and we disagree with others, but the notion that "the media" is a monolithic thing with a singular goal of deceiving the masses is a lazy way of dismissing those things which are inconvenient or disliked.

https://sciencebusiness.net/climate-news/news/hydrogen-could-be-taken-straight-ground
Here is an interesting, and what I consider, better alternative energy source."White: hydrogen is mined from the Earth's crust which continually regenerates new hydrogen.Hydrogen fuel cells can power cars, trucks and busses eliminating the need for batteries with their disposal, mining for lithium. It would eliminate the need for ugly and disruptive wind turbines which kill millions of birds including Bald Eagles, an endangered species.(funny, not a word from PETA on this plus offshore turbines, killing whales).Ugly solar panels would not be needed.Up here, in the beautiful Hudson Valley, you drive and see fields of ugly solar panels that farmers leased the land to build.(Funny, not a word from the Sierra Club on that one). The entire hydrogen power concept opens the door to perhaps having your home powered by a hydrogen fuel cell the size of a suitcase. The power company would switch them out maybe every 6 months or so.All the ugly wire and poles would be gone. The massive costs of maintaining that infrastructure would be gone. This would be closest to what the genius Nikola Tesla was experimenting with, electricity transmitted wirelessly.Hopefully, all data and entertainment will be transmitted wirelessly as well.Decorative light poles could be powered with either a small hydrogen fuel cell or a solar panel on top like the ones we see today.
Breeder reactors also offer an unlimited source of power as well if the hydrogen idea fails to fly.
I like the idea of an autonomous EV that you would "rent" if you needed a vehicle. You put an order in to a local depot and a driverless EV appears that you program to take you where you need to go for chores or whatever. When you are done, it drops you off at home and returns to the depot. No need to even have a car.You save on insurance, repairs, and gain all that garage space back.
Exciting days ahead with all this!As an investor and trader, I keep an eye out for new technological ideas.

Doc, this is music to my ears. What about the infrastructure to get hyroden cells to homes, businesses? My understanding is hydrogen is the most flammable substance. So if that gets solved for safe , plus if flames from the gas burning can be seen (my understanding is the flames are nearly to completely invisible) then it works for me. I always wondered how a hydrogen-fueled car, if rear-ended or in an accident, would be for safety-if it would explode just they might now with gas. Storing so much hydrogen...if there were a (refinery) fire, is it the moon and stars to put out?

All good questions Damian left to minds more scientific than mine to solve. What I see with hydrogen is an unlimited source of clean energy.
I was thinking a hydrogen fuel cell the size of a large suitcase could be brought to the home rather than transmitting it.This supposes the use of electric stoves which are a big area of controversy right now.The chefs steadfastly are against that.As far as autos go, the container holding the hydrogen would have to be very strong so as not to burst in an accident.

I have alot more to say Pete, but That article is nothing more than a a couple of basic facts dressed up in opinions layer after layer to paint a very specific picture.  "Is the data wrong" you ask.  Show me what data other than statements that say "scientists say this and that"  What scientist and what actual data are they using?  Are we allowed to point out or discuss the holes and flaws in the data or do we just simply need to trust that the source is 100% credible, factual, and without flaws?    Because there are multiple scientists who present counter arguments but the CNN's of the world do not put that info in their discussions to then be examined, critiqued, and compared to the data that claims all the warming we see is 100% man made CO2.  That is supposed to be the role of the news.  Instead you are told its misinformation and dangerous to listen too and therefore suppressed so you cant see it.  Why?  Because apparently you are too stupid(not you specifically; rather us Johnny go public) to look at various arguments and critically think about what is being presented and to determine what you believe.

The perfect example of how the media pushes an agenda are the Russa collusion case on Trump, and the Hunter Biden laptop before the election.  One was propagated the other suppressed.  The first was proven to 100% false and the other 100% true.  Russa collusion was pushed 24/7 and Hunter Biden was intentionally suppressed.  And yet if you spoke to the contrary you were banned, shadow banned, and suppressed yourself in the social media world.   Zuckerberg statements and the twitter files pretty much sums it up.

Also, the statement you made above is not what you think.  For all intents and purposes "The Media" is owned by only 6 companies.  That's it.  90% of what you read and watch is owned and managed under these 6 companies.  Its an illusion to think there are millions of media out there all independently coming up with their own stories.  A very simple google search will show you this. If all you do is trust these sources for the news and fail to objectively listen to counter arguments for yourself you will never see it.

There are millions of people out there that have no idea about some of these things.   Start connecting the dots.

As to Doc's post above, colleges have become left wing indoctrination centers where conservative speakers are yelled profanities at and threatened with physical violence.Art Laffer, a conservative economist who served in the Reagan Administration, was invited to speak at a SUNY up near Syracuse and he was threatened by a mob of screaming leftists. The college administration allows this to happen so the sharing of different ideas in a civil manner does not exist.I find this to be a very dangerous situation as this kind of one track thinking leads to an environment where groups like the Hitler Youth flourished in the 1930's or communist KGB agents embedded in Soviet apartments arresting anybody who spoke ill of Stalin.College is supposed to be where ALL ideas are shared so the student gets exposed to everything out there.Laffer represents conservative economics like trickle down versus liberal economists that propose big government tax and spend.Students deserve to know everything about each.

Wait. You still think Russia collusion is real? And Hunter Bidens laptop was not?? Oh man. There are two types of ignorance. The first is simply a lack of knowledge or understanding of a particular subject matter simply because they have yet to examine all the details or facts or info about a subject. To me there is nothing wrong with that. The other is termed deliberate ignorance aka agnotology. The latter is way more dangerous. And while I have no doubt you are a good person and the two of us likely have way more in common than we don’t but your response is scary.

I get it that we are in the "off" season of the forum, but I thought this section was for WEATHER banter. Personally, I'm not interested in wading through political posts about conspiracy theories or propaganda discussions on a weather board. Perhaps the administration can create a section for Politics and Religion, or maybe post this stuff in the non weather banter section. Just a friendly suggestion.

OK, some weather banter here.I am up to my ankles in acorns from my oak tree at the end of my driveway.I am getting in one week which took the prior two years to equal. These trees go through cycles where they do this, but the snow addict I am prefers to think it is predicting a killer winter up here.Time will tell, only a little more than 10 weeks to October 1.Tonight the acorns will be washed away, flood warnings up again for tonight.

Doc, taling about mast years with plentiful acorns..next year we will have...a boatload of chipmunks. That is my take. When I have walked across the yard and looked down to see acorns by my ankles, I remember the next year. Freeloading chipmunks everywhere and attacking my tomatoes. I might add I am using bio warfare again the chipmunks this year-with great success. Peppermint spray seems to work. In and around the plants, it works. The same may be said for Deer Guard. It is a hideously smelling spray that keeps deer off of the perennials. After an hour, neither spray is smelled but I guess it is still there. A couple of times the first week, then once a week. Works.

As for the young lady, euphemistically speaking...the word "sudden" means she took thinks into her own hands. I hope I am wrong. There never is a rhyme nor reason about depression or anything in and around that choice. Loved ones who are left suffer her absence.
