January 2024 Observations and Discussion

Just remember, most of the accumulating snow was to take place late morning to afternoon. We're not even there yet. That's not to say to expect more than was forecast (which are pretty low amounts outside of South Jersey), but don't assume you're getting no snow just because it's been light for the first couple hours.

I always hesitate to use the 'B' word for any storm relying on coastal influences until that pressure starts dropping and mother nature responds one way or another. She's the boss after all. General timeframe for any accumulating snow was always forecast to be between about 8am-5pm for anyone north of the Driscoll, so I think some patience would be pertinent here. The fact that we are even tracking ANY snow should be cause for celebration given the last few winters.

Snow really picked up in the last hour here, about 1 inch OTG so far. Real nice refresher for the snowpack!

Latest NWS snowfall guidance.  Totals have increased a bit further north. That's the big take away. I wouldn't be surprised IMBY to approach 5". Never underestimate a strengthening h5 trough.

But really, we are due for a monster blizzard such as the ones from '78 or '96.

Past several years have been brutal for Philly proper. Nice to see this again.

Snow definitely coming down at a good clip in the Philly metro.

CP, it's not the total I get but the process.Look at it this way, we had a snowpack going into this, nice 20 degree ish cold and now a steady light to moderate snow with 1 inch of new snow here.We have to enjoy every minute of days like this, a precious gift in the now season of Wing!
Maybe can get to two inches if this keeps up this afternoon.

Roughly 2” so far in NE Monmouth County. Light snow attm but very nice radar returns moving west to east from eastern PA across central and southern NJ, so hopefully this morning was just the appetizer for CNJ/SNJ and the Shore.

LOL, Route 22 in the Sierra Mountains of CA maybe. If that was NJ, the Flagship on Route 22 would be buried.

Snowman I am confused. You are talking about monmouth but it says your from bayville. That is in ocean. Did you move?

28* with moderate to heavy snow here! Looks beautiful.

IT HAS JUST STARTED! You can't call the entire even in the first 38 minutes of forecasted snow time. This was not going to big event. 1-3". All you need is a few hours of light snow and the forecast would verify. Give it time. You have permission to call it after 3pm

I didn't call it, it just doesnt look promising, just flurries, still nothing sticking. Now it is a very fine light/moderate snow. Sticking to fire escape, roads are very wet so I don't see it accumulating there.

Midlevel frontogenesis h7-850. That could be where some enhancement comes into play as the storm's energy gets pulled back towards the coast.

Just looked out my office window coming down heavy out of nowhere!!! Love it

Big fat snow flakes increasing in intensity and slight wind increase too.

Radar generally looks like it might stay this way thru 5pm...we'll see
