WHEW! Rain in New Hope, 3/4 of an inch last night after two weeks of barely a sprinkle now and then. Hope more will be on the way...

Hi Everyone...I hope you're all enjoying the summer!
I've spent most of this month in Jacksonville visiting my parents and my brother/his family. In Florida, the daily forecast in the summer is soooo predictable. For Jax in the NE part of the state, the bidding starts everyday somewhere between 90* and 92* for a daytime high and often reaches 95*-97*, always with a minimum humidity of 70%. The overnight lows bottom at 75* with a minimum humidity of 80%. And it seems that Jax also gets the daily summertime thunderstorm, just like South Florida does. But these storms don't break the hot-weather pattern for a day or two, they just leave behind a hot and humid steam bath for the rest of the day. lol
And this holds every day from late-May through early-October. Oh well, at least it helps me to appreciate when the summer heat/humidity breaks in early September up in the NE and we get that beautiful autumn weather!
Be well everyone!

I think the fact I lived here for so long has given me a touch of resistance to melting away. Also, I'm in my 50's now, I can feel the transition to not being as bothered by hot temps as I used to! ha ha
The daily torrential downpour has commenced! Today's storm is forecast to last about 2-3 hours and as per the radar will get progressively worse as it goes. I literally just looked outside to see if there was any lightening and as I did, I saw a huge bolt followed by a gigantic thunder clap. lol
But the beaches and beach parking are both free, so there's that!

There is comic book lightning there meaning huge, wide bolts and several at once. Like Thor was hanging around

Well, they for sure get more lightning in Florida than we do in NJ/NY/PA.
Also, not so surprisingly, Florida has more lightning than any other state, per square mile. Texas has considerably more strikes every year, but it's also considerably bigger than Florida.
That's per area. Below is a ranking of the 50 states for actual strikes in 2022. It looks like the top states all have one (or more) of three characteristics: Proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, located in 'Tornado Alley', large land areas.
Also, you can clearly the south-to-north trend in lightning strike frequency. South Dakota is ranked 12th, considerably higher than North Dakota's 22nd. And South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia all descend in consecutive rank, from 23-25, as you move north. And the Pacific NW? Fuhgettaboutit! Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska ranked from 36-44, and only recorded more lightning than the tiny Northeast/New England states.
Interesting...

Re: July 2024 Observations and Discussion
Last day of July. Warm, humid and overcast but not overly hot today probably because of the cloud cover. Looks like we open August with a short mini heat wave into the weekend before temps return to average for this time of year next week. Just over four weeks to Labor Day weekend. "Back to School" sales starting soon with summer accelerating toward it's end-point. Make the most of what's left of these summer days and nights, Fall will be here before we know it.

My old stomping grounds! I grew up in Jax, I remember those days well. I've always told people that Jacksonville's humidity felt way worse than South Florida.

I so envy you! We have had less than half an inch of rain over the past three weeks. Not looking good here in this part of eastern PA as rain falls north and south of New Hope, east as well, but not in our part of the world..
