Re: General Banter
NATIONAL WEATHERPERSON’S DAY
Always celebrated on February 5th, National Weatherperson’s Day, which is also know as, National Weatherman’s Day, is a day to honor all individuals in the fields of meteorology, weather forecasting and broadcast meteorology. Volunteer storm spotters and observers are also honored on this day as well as any others that work in the weather field.
This annual holiday commemorates the birthday of John Jeffries who was born on this day in 1744. Dr. Jeffries, a scientist and a surgeon, is considered to be one of America’s first weather observers. He kept weather records from 1774 to 1816. Jeffries took his first balloon observation in 1784.
Those being honored on National Weatherperson’s Day work hard to accurately forecast and report the always changing, and often unpredictable, weather. With all of the new technological advances, forecasting the weather is still a very difficult business. Predicting “Mother Nature” and what path she may choose, is a very daunting task even with the most state-of-the-art technology.
Knowing the weather forecast is very important to us in so many ways. We often look to the forecast to plan our activities for upcoming days. It affects what we do, how we dress, where we go or even if we go at all. Being prepared for upcoming storms, hurricanes or tornadoes can save lives.
Congratulations, you all.

Also, I want to mention for everybody to be careful on the days the temps go above freezing a while then drop below at night.I was at my Mom's yesterday and salted her walk where there was some ice. This morning, I assumed the walk was ok but stepped on a spot that had melted ice that refroze and took a bad fall.Luckily, I landed ok with just some sore spots.A few guys had to help me up (water dept workers) as I was flat on my butt spinning like a top trying to get up.Must have been a funny sight for those guys,LOL.

Re: General Banter
So tonight I heard a large amount of emergency vehicles stop right around corner of my apartment building. It peaked my nosey interest so I went out side and as soon as I did the gas smell hit me. Now I was in Harlem the day of that blast so I was instantly scared shitless. They had the whole road closed off from about a 2 city block distance and all the manholes open, people watching told me gas had been smelled since 4pm?!! and no one called until 9:45pm?! Well finally fire dept. left but conedision is still out here trying to figure out where it is coming from, i am sick to my stomach, every once in a while a wiff comes in the window. Someone else I spoke to told me at 6:30am a manhole cover outside out building on other side blew open....ummm you guys think theres a problem, hello coned and yonkers FD! I love yonkers care for its neighborhoods. Idiots, I just hope they find it and can fix soon. I heard fire marshall mention evacs if they had to come back ugg.

Hey, Taffy, now that I stopped laughing, I noticed you're from Westfield. My roomate from Steven's Tech in 1970 lived in Scotch Plains. We used to cut out from School Monday nights to see a movie at the Blue Star Shopping Center on Route 22. Is that still there/ One night when we left the movie theatre at 11:30 PM, his 1963 Chevy Impala was stolen! They found it stripped down in Jersey City!
