Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
Attached is the view from my front yard (roads had been cleared 45 minutes before now they are covered) and my backyard with a table to show rough accumulation amounts. Syosnow (my old teacher) was right about 10-16 for Long Island maybe...

Visibility is dropping and its absolutely blitzing, so awesome I am very happy. NWS is wrong to not have blizzard warnings here but thats on them. I would say 6 or so here but super hard to tell. Going out soon, my daughter is dying to go out in her first blizzard bet you she lasts 2 seconds before running inside lol

I'd have to agree - I haven't seen snow fall at this rate for such a sustained period in a long time. It's pretty remarkable. I was going to be very satisfied with 6,7, maybe 8 inches in NYC. This band, if it maintains the way it has, will surely surpass expectations.

Actually, CP, it was him in that Godzilla suit. You could see the zipper in the back in the classic Godzilla vs Rodan movie.
Heavy snow with blowing snow.
Doc I'm surprised at you, I was joking, of all people you should know better.
Still sitting on the edge of that 30 dbz band. Freaking 5 miles more west & north please.
17.6 and heavy snow continues. Approaching 4 inches.

When you add in the Wind this reminds me of PD1 back in the 70s. I'll assume you don't remember that one. Absolutely blitzing out there for the last hour and a half wind-driven gusts that are shaking my carQuietace wrote:I haven't gone out side, but it looks like 12-15" here. Same here Jim. We were just upgraded to winter storm warning with 6-8 expected. I was wondering when they were going to do this.

I'm from Great Neck, long island. The snow has been coming down pretty hard in my area, near if not whiteout conditions. The bands have been killer, i would say ive gotten 2-3 inches in the past 1:15. Excited to see how this one unfolds...

Kudos to all those who look beyond what the models was showing. I know they gave me a headache but it didn't make sense what they were spitting out with all the Dynamics and strength of this system. Hector how is that 3in working out for you and Mike where are you. All those whiny post last night all of you are now banned to oti for two weeks.

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
Gee NWS just issued a Winter storm warning for Orange County. Always late to the party.
As Docstox said yesterday this could be one where they chase their totals up all day long. To me those are the best storms.

Jersey shore up to Queens and Nassau have gotten 8-14 inches so far. Insane around a foot. Streets not even plowed. Drifts 2-3 feet covering cars. 50-60 mph gusts here on the south shore.

Yep, CP, NWS a day late and a dollar short. Now we are at 4 to 8.The other day they said "around an inch"total.
I agree 100%.I love reading "around an inch" rather than seeing clown maps of 35 inches. This one is a very pleasant surprise, I was going to be happy with 3.We are going past 4 now.
Really fun looking at this, a raging snowstorm.

Weatherwatchmom must be getting melted. Sitting under the real heavy stuff for 4 hours almost now. I’ve got more heavy bands moving in from Suffolk. It’s a race to 20”

The band that's been sitting over me for the last hour and a half looks like it's not moving West my feeling is it's just going to sit there and die out. Hopefully it lasts for a few more hours

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
You are probably right because I’ve been waiting for that and (and others) to move west all morning and they’re just not making it here. Lol. I’m lucky though, I’m getting moderate bands and decent snow here and probably end up with a few inches (exactly what I expected so pretty happy with that). West of me theyve been in light snow most of the morning I think.algae888 wrote:The band that's been sitting over me for the last hour and a half looks like it's not moving West my feeling is it's just going to sit there and die out.
