CP, my wife is a teacher's aide in Goshen, no delay there.

I figured at least 1 or 2 below but it didn't happen.

Doc my wife is a teacher in Newburgh, they called last night with a two hour delay. I know this makes me sound old but we never had a delay for cold when I was growing up, it's actually pathetic IMO.

You got that right CP, I can remember walking to High School a mile there and a mile back in single digit temps in the 1960's.You got used to it and it toughened you up.

I want to get on this train. The only time as a child that I had a school closing for a cold day -- was one time when the power in the school went out. And I'm not sure if that was for the lack of heat or the lack of lights. But no matter how cold it got, you went to school. And I had a 15 minute walk to school and then we lined up outside in the schoolyard to wait for the doors to open. So I was well exposed to whatever the temps were -- so I don't want to hear about bus stops.

Okay maybe if you are old enough to walk to school then you can handle it but I work with 18 month to 3 year olds who btw all made it in. So I guess they were tough yoo. It had nothing to do with that I just wanted a few hrs more to sleep lol. Plus we get 2 snow days a year and I am hoping we get to use them. But no more than 2 or we start cut into Feb break. My dad used to tell me a story when I was young that I was gullible enough to believe. He grew up in vt and said the snow was so deep he had to dig a tunnel to school. Lol dads

We have gotten way too sensitive about everything involving kids. I do agree they should be safe in the cold and should not stay out for an ungodly amount of time but waiting 5 min at the bus stop. When I was a kid I'd just wait inside the front door but more times than not I wanted to play in the snow b4 the bus.

Ok I'm really getting sick of the term flash flood watch its rediculous how many we have had since last year. Is this the new thing? We no longer get rainy days no we get tropical deluge. Even worse in winter. But I'm just letting you all know there is one posted for 1.25 to 2.5 plus for tomorrow.

The pattern since the start of winter has been warm/wet or cold/dry. It's not the 'new' normal like I've seen some posters say (I know they are kidding), it is simply the way the pattern has developed this winter. The pieces of energy ejecting out from the PAC jet are very potent that they allow heights to rise ahead of them. We've seen so many HP's stationed in the western Atlantic.

I don't think we can draw any conclusions about winter based on any month because the years know many things the months do not. Thinking about that heat wave winter, barbecuing on the deck, I would have thought that all future winters could be like that. Thinking about 2013-15, I thought we were entering an ice age. The new normal = extremes. For me, the surprise has been cold weather=no moisture to deal with. Just over freezing or higher=plenty of moisture to deal with. Lots more rain, all the time. What do analogs say about this?

21 and cloudy this morning with a nice snow pack. Just like winter should be. Too bad the 1.5 inches of rain and 50* temps tomorrow are going to really put a dent into it.

Will see where we stand after tomorrow ends. I was hoping for at least a couple of weeks of solid snow cover, alas maybe not.

CP when you say "solid", my snow cover is solid as in like a rock. Even the deer are not able to pop holes in it. They walk on it and they look like me at age 8 trying to roller skate. Hilarious to see them slide sideways. We will see if the rain is an eraser.

33, light rain.

Amazing how less than 50 miles can make a landscape look.At my Mom's in Fort Lee NJ, there is no snow cover at all, but up here in Monroe NY, a solid white ice pack of 4 inches.I think the rain will just run down the ice and not put much of a dent in it.Temps supposed to crash after mid day so we will see.

51 degrees and rain.

Ill guesstimate the snow/ice pack is down to 3 inches since all the grassy areas are still completely covered but I doubt it can take a whole day of this crap.

What a joke -2° Monday morning and 51 and rain on Thursday. The MJO phases may change but the pattern seems to want to rain.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Back to sanity and reason after a stint in the playpen,LOL

45 degrees, front passed, temp dropping and wind howling.Light rain.A day late and a dollar short to save what might have been at least a minimal semblance of an ice/snow pack.

got up to 48 in Binghamton. Lost about the entire snowpack. Have 2" in spots, grass in others. Ended as snow so now we have a slushy coating of about 3/4". Temp down to 31

Got up 55 today with very impressive rains. Now ponds of water where snow should be.

As the last batch of moisture leaves the cold air pours in to add a little salt to the gaping wound.
