Love those Hawaiin snow reports. Elevation is key no matter where you may be!
If this latest forecast for the HV with all snow does not wake cp up, I am going to organize a search and rescue operation for him!

Ok, this is going to sound really odd, but did anybody else hear what sounded like a mix of thunder, fighter jets, and wind gusts from about 12am-2am this morning?? They were short (only about 2-4 seconds in duration) rumbles at random intervals and noise levels. I know it wasn’t thunder because there weren’t any thunderstorms/showers around, and it seemed too fleeting to be fighter jets (I get to see/hear fighter jets quite regularly down here, so I know what they sound like haha). Obviously, there was not nearly enough wind to sound like that lol what’s more, is my friend and coworker who lives by Wilkes-Barre, Pa also heard these. I have no idea what it could be, and certainly cannot find a reasonable explanation, so if anybody has some insight I’d love to hear it.

I actually caught a good video of one, so I’ll upload that once I get out of work.

Ray, we heard it here 100 miles away. It woke my wife and I up at the same time. I thought it was thunder but what was odd was its duration. 3-4 times and quite short...something like 5-8 seconds. It all happened quickly within a minute. It seemed to go away and we thought nothing more of it. We went back to bed. A few nights before, we heard the same thing but there was rain in the forecast (and it is raining now lightly) so again we thought "thunder"-but so short? I had never heard thunder be burpy. Area 52 in Harrisburg, mate.

Increase in resolution = increase of number of computations = increased error = less reliable. In my opinion, of course. But look at what happened with their last major upgrade to include additional vertical resolution; ever since it hasn't been the same model.

Ahhhhh exactly what I said to my friend. The last upgrade after Sandy showed its vulnerability and even this past fall with storms and temperatures. The variability is going to be even more IMO since it will be more sensitive to the readings and data. Also, I'd like to see teh physics that are implementing as well and what they are taking into consideration.

Alaska is getting absolutely smoked with brutal cold adn snow as is Scandinavia region and the North to Central Tier of Russia and China.
Who controls teh Natural Gas that flows into Europe............Russia through I believe its 5 pipelines. Shame on them for putting this into the hands of Putin (ex KGB man and don't forget that, sure as heck he doesn't). Nuts n Bolts they're screwed (catch that little mechanical saying!) this winter and beyond if they do not rectify this.

I don’t think they’re changing the physics scheme, mugs, but I could be wrong. But I agree, I wish they’d just leave well enough alone. If it ain’t broke, they shouldn’t fix it lmao

I staying out of the politics, though 😂

The utter devastation of what occured last night in the SE and Midwest is just horrific. Town were levelled hundreds reported dead or missing from some on teh ground reports. As a weather weenie I have seen such maybe 2 other times in my 45 years of loving the weather. These Americans need prayers and help pronto peeps. The radar last night was like me lighting up my XMas tree with Torns, warnings inside of warnings, lightening and hail, debris rising 20-30K feet by some estimations and reports. Winds 200-250MPH by radar.

Not yet Doc but my weather club at school that I run will be setting something up this week if you'd like. Part of our mission this year is to help those who have suffered loss from extreme wx, planetary events
