Sending prayers for healing for your son Mugsy.God Bless the front line ER Nurses and Physicians who are working under extreme conditions, as you describe, but also put themselves at risk getting sick.amugs wrote:Oldest son in hospital with what they believe is mono since yesterday. Had a CT scan done at another hospital ER 4 days ago when he had pain in the left side and had a 103 for 4 days - could not get an appt with regular dr and told to go to nearest ER,. They said there after exanimating him it was most likely ulcerative colitis or Chrones disease even though NO GI saw him or the CT Scan results and gave him heavy antibiotics and sent him home. Said we need the bed just in case for VID patients. He became so sick due to the wrong meds he could not keep any food nor water down. and his urine was literally a brown color from severe dehydration. He had jaundice and is getting so much better today after 24 hours of IV fluids. He went in by ambulance and they put him in a waiting room for 1.5 hours before they even saw him in triage and then 1/2 hour later got him into the ER. Nurses were swamped and were pissed because in their words - everyone with a common cold thinks they have COVID and are backing us up with paperwork and testing. Said if yuo have a fever for more than 48 hours then come in. Come in test them then send them home but the Govt paperwork is crazy. Even the ER doctors rolled their eyes about this. His nurse said 18 beds have VID patients everyone else has a myriad of other health issues - broken bones, surgeries, etc and all are older folks 75 and up. She said normal flu season we see about this if not more. Interesting coming from the front line doctors in an urban hospital. He should be coming home tomorrow - no visitors allowed at all and the nurses and doctors are not happy with this policy.

This checks because all I have seen the last month is solid pink ( winter storm warning) on the NWS maps for California.Sierras, Cascades and the North Central is the pattern right now.Anyway, all this snow should help with drought conditions there.

Speedy recovery Mugs. Hopefully they will eventually start hiring back all the fired nurses and health care workers to alleviate the burden on the so few carrying the load. This wouldn't be nearly the issue if they simply used a little common sense. Sad sad state of the world.

Yikes! Praying for a speedy recovery for your son! I have seen Valley Hospital go on divert and close the ER almost every day for a few hours so they can handle all the patients. When I took a patient there last week the hallways were packed and ours was the last patient they took. I think since a lot of people can't get tested for covid they are running to the ER for it if they feel a little off. They are taking up beds for patients that REALLY need to be hospitalized. Such a mess.
