Pete, just to clarify.
Wall runs from December 1 to January 31. Wing runs from February 1 to March 31. Spring begins April 1.
Right now snowfall wise it looks like the second half of Wing may out produce fall, wall, and the first half of wing combined. That would be a first.

I thought I had read somewhere that first month of Wall and second month of Wing had a subclassification, giving the Wall/Wing season bookends. The first month of Wall is classified as Finter, and the second month of Wing is Spingter. I could be wrong.
Anyway we all should try our best to have a nice relaxed Spingter. A relaxed Spingter leads to a happy Spingter. No sense in having a tense Spincter. Nothing ever good comes out of it.

From these latest posts, including myself, it is clear to see the psychological ravages that the lack of snow has caused.Enough material here for a weekend Psychiatrist's convention.Ah, we do cope however!
Glad you got to see that heavy Gulf snow in 1899 CP on that tramp steamer!

All this wall ,wing, spingter ,spincter, spring talk got me thinking of the annual Paris Spring fashion show. This would be my luck covering it on the nightly tv news, I would be fired that night!

Ahhh yes Diamond! I remember him well. I believe he moved off LI shortly after recovering from being neutered. He used to be way more relaxed though. He looked really tense in that video. I wonder if that was from last Springter?

Look at the CONUS map this morning to see the pattern that has been in effect since Nov.1.Amazing how once these patterns set, they are set in concrete. In '95-'96, that wonderful pattern worked for us.

Three days ago the threat on the 23rd had a high of 34 for me with 4-8 inches of snow. Today I’m showing 60 with rain. I mean why even issue long range forecasts. Not unexpected of course as the Wall of 22/23 rolls into the middle of Wing of 23.
For your own sanity, I’ve already lost mine, ignore all references to pattern change.
Another great long range call from the one time great Joe Bastardi regarding this winter.

It should be called a somewhat sophisticated guess at what will happen down the line rather than a long range forecast

I have thrown in the towel...packed up all hints of winter decor..I usually leave up and pack after st Patrick's day ..but too depressing..so spring cleaning and st Patrick's decor only..
Winter 2022-2023 what a bust....looks like my son will graduate 2 days early(since 2 days built in)..only 76 more high school days left..

I usually pack it in March 15th if there are no long range signals for the two following weeks.March 1 looks like a good bet this miserable season.

Re: Banter Thread 8.0
In today's NYPost, a four foot alligator was caught in a lake in Brooklyn. Who knows how long that critter was there. It could have been released yesterday but it was still in the water and caught by park workers in a boat. Then there is the matter of my Nest home heating report. My January heating hours decreased by 125 hours from December. Good for me; bad for the spot commodities market.
My friend in Chester county, PA has crocus and daffodils coming up all over.
Yes, it has been warmer than it should. We all know it. However when we see an alligator has been out here lately swimming in a lake in Brooklyn and 125 fewer heating hours less in a month that should be colder than December...up is down, down is up, and I am the Dutchman.

LA Nina Central Based is the main culprit to this disaster of a winter. The other Nina's where not Central based so you CAN NOT lump them all together and call out Nina winter. East Based Nina's and west bases are more winter like. Central based just suck. Hence this abysmal season we ate experiencing. Where that varmint Phil???

Re: Banter Thread 8.0
With the absolutely awful winter we have endured this year ( being that everyone on this forum loves cold and snow) the only thing that can maybe make up for it a bit would be a very cool, low humidity type summer.
Most likely though we will end up with heat wave after heat wave and have to endure a long brutal summer. Only winter does the opposite of what its supposed to do year after year.
Worst winter ever by far. Not just in terms of lack of snow, but temps consistently in the upper 40s and low 50s, with temps in the 30s being extremely rare. That is not how winter should be.

Dolphin, I hear you. I like a hot summer myself to enjoy the pool and go out 6:30 ish to enjoy the summer. I like a crisp, cold winter with lots of snow. Cold is good. Heating bills are not. I begrudge heating bills. I am ok with air conditioning bills for some reason.
The highest temp I have seen since I moved up here in 99: 103.7 three days in a row. The coldest:-23. What about everyone else!
