I don't know who that is in Twp., but they are always low, they must measure after compacting. Someone else in Twp measured 7". I measure as I go and never measure more than an hour after an event geek

CPK and Logan are just about even currently for seasonal snowfall totals. I don't how many times CPK has exceeded BOS but probably not too many times over the last 100 years.

Mikey, alias math23x7 did a comparison a couple of years ago. I believe there were only 18 times that NYC had more than Boston, which sounds about right. If we did a comparison of NYC and WDC it would probably be about the same in NYC favor.

As of last night the very tight snowfall competition between NYC and Boston has the double digit underdog NYC ahead 38.6 inches to 38.4 inches. I'd still put my money on Boston to pull ahead in March.

It looks very likely that CPK will finish higher than Logon this season. That's remarkable albeit not unheard of. March was devoid of snow in CPK and Logon recorded .1"

An interesting year to say the least...

CPK --> 38.6"
BOS --> 38.5"

A little late on this but the January 27-28 storm which was recorded as 8.3 inches in central park, probably low by about 1.5 inches but it’s what goes down in the books, becomes the 100th storm of 8.3 inches or more since 1869 when official records have been kept in NYC.

There really should have been a parade.

I have composed a random list of 10 NYC snowstorms of at least 1' with their 500mb patterns 1 week up to the start of the storm.  The January 1996 storm had the least HL blocking west or east of Greenland. The rest had sig blocking west/east of Greenland. As I have said the PAC is important for amplification of the storm as well as cold air transport, but it must be aligned with the Atlantic domain. Moreover, IMO, there's more margin for error with the blocking as any storm that slows down can produce and it's also much more likely the SE ridge is kept at bay. Final point to keep in mind is nothing can be too hostile either as the other factors can only compensate so much. January 2022 had some east based blocking and was very close to all the right pieces for PHL/NYC and surrounding NW burbs.

NYC unless there is a big dog storm tends to receive < 40" of snow a very vast of majority of the time. My point is NYC doesn't nickel and dime it's way to 40" season and neither does PHL and of course DC rarely sees that kind of snow.

Here are the storms in order of date descending order.  Some of these are quite memorable!

With a high today of 58 in New York City and the current low of 10, that now ties the all time record of greatest differential in temperature, 48 degrees, in one day in the 153 years of record keeping in NYC.

Sometimes when you think you've seen it all, you really haven't.

An historic event yesterday in NYC. The high was 58 degrees and the low by midnight was 8. The 50 degree difference was the largest single day difference in the 153 years that records have been kept. The old record was 48 degrees.

That’s pretty incredible. Do you happen to know the date of the previous record?

Left Albany at 10 PM last night, several hours after the flash freeze took place. It took some time to defrost/deice the car and remove the coating of snow on top of it.

The drive from there to Queens was fine though and I didn't encounter any traffic.

I got this from Donald Sutherland on American so I want to give credit where credit is due.

Yesterday the temperature was above normal again in New York City, what a shock, for the 32nd consecutive day which sets the all-time record for Consecutive days above normal during any time of year.

No we are not imagining that this winter is unprecedented, it is. And soon New York City will add to that the latest in the season going without a measurable snowfall. I believe that record falls today? Heehaw can verify me on that.

One thing I wanted to add to that, that’s 32 days above normal as compared to the 1991 to 2020 average temperatures which are already the highest on record.

Even makes that record worse.

What more can be said.

Today now makes 33 consecutive days of above normal temperatures. We have now shattered the old record of 31.
To reiterate that’s 33 consecutive days above 1991-2020 averages which are the highest averages recorded in 153 years of record keeping.

Hurray for us.

NYC now owns the longest snowless streak of any winter in recorded history.
