The HRRR has to be overdone on the western edge. It has me in about 8 or 9”. Right now with this mornings dry slot and what I suspect will be a quick end west to east later this morning I think I’ll be lucky if I’m in the 3-6” range.

If you look at the wunderground LI radar there’s an area over the ocean pivoting towards the LI NYC area over 100 miles wide of HEAVY returns. Going to be a good next 6 hours or so

The make or break for Central and North Jersey (anywhere more than 20 miles from the coast) will be if we can get one of those heavy coastal bands to move inland in the next few hours. If not this may be a 1-3 for us.

I know this doesn’t apply to our Long Island friends who are getting the bands, but man is it frustrating to see so many heavy bands just off shore over the ocean while interior areas are struggling to get a moderate band here or there.

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
Bill Evans just explained how north shore of CLI and ELI is a microclimate in that when you have a storm like this with a northerly wind off the sound, you get enhanced snowfall totals (similar to lake effect enhancement) and therefore higher totals.

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
Something different about this storm for me is that everytime we get a blizzard it seems it takes quite a while for that wind to stiffen. It's nice to see that with such a bombing low my winds are already on the move. Getting Northerly gusts here in Deer Park to 25 mph. Snowing heavy with a temperature of 25.5. About 2 inches on the ground.

Absolutely epic out right now. Snowing sideways at nearly 2” per hour. Wind ripping. Visibility 200 yds

Alex give me an approximate end time. If it’s about 4:00 pm and we can avg. 1.5” per hour from now till then that’s 13” on top of the 2-4” so far. What do you think

Sign me up for this! There is a little tongue over me in the LHV of nearly an inch. With colder ratios here that could get me a foot.Very skeptical though, but fun to see.

Lol. Thanks. Post away, not everyone gets every storm so enjoy them when you jackpot. I know I’d be posting like crazy if I were getting a blizzard and it was raining on the coast. Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
My LI friend: Well it depends on if a deform band sets up over us or not, that will possibly extend the end time. But i think we see a rapid decrease in intensity around 4pm, shutting off by 5pm west end, 7-8pm east endsyosnow94 wrote:aiannone wrote:

Jimmy, my two cents is you are a lock for 16 plus! You're in the sweet spot.

Hi doc. Lurker for many years and located in cental/northern Bucks county PA. Snowing moderate/heavy now with 2 inches on ground. I agree 100% that the cutoff is much farther west than what guidance was suggesting recently. Sub 960 MB low under rapid intensification, ample arctic air, close to benchmark and coming into our latitude usually renders significant white gold. If not for progressive nature of this storm i can only marvel at the possibilities. I think I can get 8-12 as the snow is just accumulating so rapidly. But then again shouldn't get too far ahead of myself, LOL!

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
Here in Barnegat, Nj near the bay I would say 3-4 on ground tough to get an accurate with wind/blowing snow. A lot of local was saying 8-12 but I think no doubt we get over 12++
