Hi doc. Lurker for many years and located in cental/northern Bucks county PA. Snowing moderate/heavy now with 2 inches on ground. I agree 100% that the cutoff is much farther west than what guidance was suggesting recently. Sub 960 MB low under rapid intensification, ample arctic air, close to benchmark and coming into our latitude usually renders significant white gold. If not for progressive nature of this storm i can only marvel at the possibilities. I think I can get 8-12 as the snow is just accumulating so rapidly. But then again shouldn't get too far ahead of myself, LOL!

Here in Barnegat, Nj near the bay I would say 3-4 on ground tough to get an accurate with wind/blowing snow. A lot of local was saying 8-12 but I think no doubt we get over 12++

Expect those heavy bands over the ocean to lift further north into NLI and SCT as the low pressure moves north!

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
Not even a flake here in Fishkill yet lol That's fine, because just having it turn out like it is is satisfaction enough for me At least some of us are getting to cash in on the white gold!! A LOT better than most were anticipating up until 24 hours ago, and I love it!! Enjoy my fellow snow weenies!!!
As I type this, the wind is beginning to gust so I know some of the dry air is starting to mix out now. Fingers crossed!!

WILL DO DOC. Coming down hard. Windy. 25 degrees. 4” so far getting hard to measure. Bare in some spots and already foot high drifts in others.

Just had to run out to move the car. (parked under a tree) didn't know it would be so windy. Light heavy snow at 21 degrees. About an inch

My dog who usually loves the snow wants no part of it either. It could be the rapidly decreasing pressure, they seem to be sensitive to that.

[ltr]Mesoscale Discussion 0005[/ltr]
[ltr] NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK[/ltr]
[ltr] 0506 AM CST Thu Jan 04 2018[/ltr]
[ltr] Areas affected...From eastern New Jersey and Delaware into southern New England[/ltr]
[ltr] Concerning...Heavy snow [/ltr]
[ltr] Valid 041106Z - 041700Z[/ltr]
[ltr] SUMMARY...Snow rates will increase in intensity through midday, with max rates to 3"/hr into southern New England after about 10am local time.[/ltr]
[ltr] DISCUSSION...Precipitation continues to increase offshore as the surface low rapidly deepens. The heaviest snow bands were affecting eastern New Jersey as of 10Z but heavy snow was rapidly developing across Long Island. The zone of strongest frontogenetical forcing will lift northward and strengthen through late morning, likely resulting in an intense, pivoting band of heavy snow capable of 2-3"/hr rates from central Long Island to Red Sox Suck. The rain/snow line will remain nearly stationary near or just west of Cape Cod.[/ltr]

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
I guess my big question here is, once the storm starts pulling north will the heavier bands making back to Philly right now keep making it that far west when they get up here. Nothing seems to be progressing north on the back end of this.
