No blizzard warning for Bronx because Jman lives there. CP you are right on. Central LI caught in between 2 weenie bands right now. Still moderate though. I “measured” 12.5”. Drifts to 4’ in spots

You have to take a average of measurements due to blowing and drifting.......not just onetrack17 wrote:Ace I measured 16 on top if my outside bar

Yeah the advisories in this storm have perplexed me. Last night they issued an advisory for 3-6” near me. Anything over 4” used to be a winter storm warning.brownie wrote:The roads are so bad here the cops closed the major state highway (Route 10) by my house. And yet it is still Winter Weather Advisory here. I don’t like or understand the new advisory/warning criteria.
With the blowing and drifting it is literally impossible to tell how much snow has fallen. I’m guessing less than 6 inches, but that is a very bad storm out there. I don’t think “Advisory” adequately describes the conditions here.

Winter storm warning has always been 6 inches in Uptons area and 5 inches in MT. Holleys area. I don't ever remember it being 4?

Ripping here too. Intense band of even heavier snow just east of us. Not sure if it makes it here though. Eastern Dutchess/NW Conn. getting blitzed.

Re: January 4th Mothrazilla: Final Call & Observations
I have always lived in Mt Holly area (farther south initially now near their north end). Once they called for 4-6” it was always a WSW. If they said 1-3 or 2-4 it was an advisory. Maybe that changed at some point and I missed it but when I grew up 4” was always the benchmark for a warning in Philly/SJ.CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:billg315 wrote:Yeah the advisories in this storm have perplexed me. Same here it's been 5 miles to my SE for the last two hours but it's been blizzard like. Just measured a hair under 5 inches new snow.

More bands starting to rotate in. Over a foot here now. Jersey shore must have around 16 inches.

And that band is not going to make it much further west so it stalls and pivots which would increase totals quickly.

So hard to find a good place to measure, trying multiple locations around my property, trying to find somewhere where it isn't exposed to wind, but measured 5" as of 12:20

Yes, I read that. I'm on the western edge of that but you must be right in the middle of it close to whiteout conditions.
