12/16-12/17 Godzilla: Final Snow Map & Obsevations

Look at that: Dry slot shows up right where the models had it on last nights runs. It does appear to be rather small and possibly filling in so maybe it’s a brief setback.

Exactly why the models showed those 2 areas with more snow.

Yes. Oddly, parts of the immediate coast will see higher snow amounts than areas in EPA/WNJ

So that dry slot is moving into my area, once that happens will it shut off and it does will it restart cuz I see maybe a few inches out there, that would be a very low amount even by staying on low end.

Sleet now mixing in

Just went outside I have about 5” so far in Middletown.

All snow - still coming down heavily in midtown. Dry slot looks both imminent and that it's trying to fill in.

Easterly fetch of winds.  You can see how it's warming the coastal plain up. almost matches the fall line exactly. this storm is going to need to pull away a bit to get the colder air in.

slowing down must be the dry slot moving in winds howling

Yes...but it will not fill in until overnight hours

also look at the pushback of the low pressure against the isobars in New York and NE.  they are bending up instead of bending down. Nature at work...

Heavy snow will continue through 1030PM. Snowfall rates will
reach up to 1 to 2 inches per hour. Winds will be very gusty as
well especially along the coast where gusts will reach near 40 mph

Travel will be very difficult. Poor visibility, snow covered and
icy roads will be dangerous. Expect slippery conditions on the
roads.

Bring it on up!

If you're at or below route 80 probably fighting two things.  The dry slot is one and the warm nose of air is another.  When you see the isotherms bend up like this, then there is air probably above the 850mb which is above freezing.  The storm pulling away solves that problem. It's just a matter of is there something meaningful left at that point for your area.

Still a steady, light snow here. Seems to have put down more than I expected in the last 45 min. Closer to four inches. I guess the best is yet to come. Still 18 here. Winds are meh at about 7 mph out of the NE. For the amount of firewood I moved today, and in anticipation of a power outage, I expect some return on investment. A fruit tray or a deli platter would be nice. If not those, some snow (please).

Looks like maybe an inch on the ground here and, not quite the dry slot, but not snowing much. I really don't know how West Orange is going to reach a foot of snow as predicted.
