Re: February 1st-2nd Roidzilla, Part IV: Final Forecast
Good Morning snow lovers! What a day this will be.
Heavy snow in Hopatcong, temp hovering in the low 20s. Just measured about 10 inches on the ground already....how crazy is that???? I saw Morristown reported 8 about an hour ago, so that seems right to me.

Just got a EAS alert on phone NYC has put a FULL travel restriction including all the boroughs, no cars are to be out. Not sure what will happen if your caught but I would advise against.

My bad its not a full travel ban, its a advisory and discourages non-essential travel, phone said travel ban.

Coastal is getting its act together as the bands are rotating in off the ocean and we are getting deeper echo returns. All that latent heat from teh primary is going to make this go boom shortly !!

27* with moderate snow. Some sleet actually mixed in here pattering my window but predominately snow. I expect with these heavy bands settling here any sleet I have mixed into the snow will go back to all snow very shortly. Looks gorgeous out there!

In more ways than one JMAN!! LOL!u
Winds are and will pick up. Be careful for what yo wish for sometimes when this bad boy gets cranking!. Just a delicacy of delight outside - 24* and moderately to heavy snow - heavy now 1" per hour rates.
Radar returns are juicy and getting juicier like a fruit that is rippening!
AT this rate we can see a good 12-20" depending on where your at and if those bands train over you.
Those banned maps ???

Re: February 1st-2nd Roidzilla, Part IV: Final Forecast
Our 500mb trough already in a neutral state. Once this fully closes off we'll begin seeing the secondary low slow down and gradually intensity as it gets captured.
Nothing major to call out with the SLP. Its position looks more or less with where the 6z GFS had it. I will say its pretty impressive the primary has already evaporated. Makes me think this trough means business. The banding that sets up later today will be prolific, historic, and majestic.
This area of 700mb frontogenesis will literally expand and explode north as we progress through the day. Once the 850mb LLJ takes over (around noon-ish), it's going to be vomiting snow in and around NYC.
Here is your current r/s line. What this isn't picking up is a warm layer in and just north of Philly. That includes west-central NJ. This warm layer should mix itself out once the coastal low gets going, but I will admit it was not predicted and could eat in to snow accumulations.
This storm will have surprises in store. I admit my forecast already looks on the high side for southern areas (DC-Philly-SNJ), but I still feel good about the north side. Let's see what happens!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to February folks!
Column has crashed completely. Nice big dendrites. The kind that accumulate rapidly.
