Re: February 1st-2nd Roidzilla, Part IV: Final Forecast
Those few flakes I said started earlier this morning continue as just that - a few flakes. My neighbors are already out with their snow blowers and shovels. the apartment houses and condos on the block are already plowed out, and people are driving up and down the block as if it's a normal day out there. All of NJ Transit is shut down, but there doesn't seem to be any delays at Newark Airport. Heck, the clouds seem to be breaking up and a bit of brightness is coming through. I guess I'll have no trouble making to and from my 8:30 doctor's appointment that's within walking distance.
And they're still calling for another 18" or so?
~~~
Nevermind. Within 10 minutes of writing that the skies darkened again, the clouds gathered together again, the snow started pouring - both tiny and fat flakes - and the winds whipped up. Oh, and my doc's office called to cancel, thank goodness! Now to sit back and enjoy the storm!
The secondary low is just getting going
Should change back to snow
i was just about to say thats photoshopped and then read ur writing wow that is ironically cool!! Coming down at a good clip id say moderate. Loving this is during the day the most cuz night storms are cool but daytime much better.Frank_Wx wrote:The secondary low that is developing, aka Roidzilla, is shaped like an “L”
These purple circles over SNJ/CNJ/Philly are showing heavy bands of snow in this "frontgeneisi" this si why they are seeing whiteout condition in these areas with winds and heavy snow - chill NNJ peeps its coming - the radar is exploding to the ocean as the Low is getting together with its buddies to hit the dance floor - @billings did a nice job above explaining this.
Some towns under the purple circles may be raining or sleeting, but it’s only a matter of time before the changeover to snow happens
Frank- once the costal low takes shape and starts ripping you think mixing holds off for most of Long Island?
Getting hammered right now! Howling winds and heavy snow. Probably at least 6/7 on the ground.
I’ve been saying you gotta stay north-northwest of the 700mb low to avoid mixing or dry slotting. Unfortunately the shore and LI will see dry slotting take by 7pm or so this evening. Then they should see more snow wrap around Tuesday morning into afternoon.
New Hope: no snow coming down at 3 or 5 am, next round hasn't started yet. 26*, eyeballing it from inside, looks like about 6" so far...
Sorry guys,"Additional" was the key word i over looked in the WSW, I would say I have that 4 inches or so already so right on track so far. I do hope it doesnt change to wintry mix tonight,, but they say thats only "possible". Lets go! And I fully understand we are not in the primary yet, but i dunno if there was a lull before i woke up but it is certainly not a lull now.
850 is more SE of teh area that is good news to keep the warm air from intruding into the system/storm once it gets going. Once teh storm matures it game on for snow for everyone down to the coast.
Not that models really matter noiw but the 3km nam has backed off on those rediculous 30 inch totals and seems pretty uniform with 16-20/24. But i guess thats additional snow so some prolly will make it over 24 still.
wow nice, i cannot really tell from 2nd floor and the fire escape is a bad measure with all the gaps it just falls off. I'd say at least 4 here but we arent that far apart so it might be closer to 5 or 6. Roads are bad, no plows and fully covered. Sparkles DO not go out, its coming and we do not want you getting stuck in the brunt of it.Vinnydula wrote:6-7in 25 degrees
Good Morning snow lovers! What a day this will be.
Heavy snow in Hopatcong, temp hovering in the low 20s. Just measured about 10 inches on the ground already....how crazy is that???? I saw Morristown reported 8 about an hour ago, so that seems right to me.
