A friend of mine and his wife live in Punta Gorda and evacuated east yesterday.Saw that town had 124 mph gusts.Texted me he expects the worst when he gets back.Home is on a lagoon. All I could say was you are both safe and sound and that is all that matters.Mugsy's video above looks like a Tsunami hit that area.

Ian is on the way here. Getting intense rain bands at the moment, wind is starting to whip out side hard. Going to be a crazy night.

I just spoke to my friend in Fort Meyers. Omg he and his family almost died. He said In a matter of 30-45mins the water rose from his front door to above the roof. They had to break out of His sons back window because water was rushing in the front. He was able jump in their Kayaks and literally row away. They were being washed away when their neighbor saw them and came in their power boat and picked them up and took them to their house with other neighbors because it’s two stories. I’ve never heard Him so shaken up. I have to be honest I’m shaken up thinking about it. He has a 13yr old son, 16 yr old daughter his wife and father in law that he had to get out of the house. He said they lost everything, but everyone is ok. Shaken but ok

The angle of approach, the slow approach, over 90+* water, and a wicked jet streak to the north placing Ian in the right rear quadrant was pretty much the worst case scenario

Scully if you’re reading this it was Bryan. He lost his cell. Only the kids have theirs.

Once he crosses into the atlantic is there anything that would prevent him from going directly back into SC? NAM is suggesting a NC/SC landfall, is it possible he takes the coast or do we have a solid block?

Not surprising, given all the footage.

My father in law in Fort Myers Beach is ok, but has a very similar story to sroc’s friend. I imagine there will be lots of folks with that story unfortunately. Just glad he survived.

I hope they will be ok...but did you ask where the national guard is? this was during the middle of the storm..they are not out patrolling or rescuing. that is what they are doing this morning.

My brother in Cape Coral is ok, but lots of damage to his home. Waiting for an update, but I think the damage was all wind related. There was a report of 110 mph winds there. Coast Guard has been doing rooftop rescues in Ft Myers, bridges to the barrier islands are all compromised so hopefully no one stayed out there.

The stories are horrific and sad.

41K line worker and special personal to help with clean up, they need the Army Corps of Engineers in there pronto.
Sanibel Island bridge collapsed into teh causeway and there is no way on or off the island. It is destroyed by all reports as is Captiva.

THERE IS NO UNDERPLAYING THE DECIMATION THAT WE WILL SEE.
THE MILITARY IS DOING FLY OVERS WITH 2 PLANES AND USING BLAKCHAWKS TO ASSESS DAMAGE - IT IS HORRIBLE. Military pilot reported some of teh worst destruction he has seen, this includes his surveying of Michael

Hundreds dead. Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, etc -- very populated area with lots of seniors. Death toll might be in the thousands.

My parents rode out Ian in Punta Gorda. They are on a canal. Just spoke to them. Wind damage but no flooding. For taking a direct hit, they got lucky.
