Post by jmanley32 Tue Jan 09, 2024 4:19 pm

Weak to no inversion oy...per actual soundings. And PWAT values are nuts.

o changes to the wind headlines. High wind warning and wind
advisory remain in effect for the entire region. The main concern
with the winds will be a low level jet maximum of near 100 kt that
develops this evening at a height of around 4-8 kft. Model sounding
BUFKIT profiles do not depict a strong inversion, as the thermal
profiles appear to be close to isothermal. Winds just 1-2kft above
the surface are shown to reach 50-60 kt according to multiple model
BUFKIT soundings across the coastal areas and with the heavy rain
and aforementioned thermal profiles, much of this should get mixed
down to the surface through downward momentum transport. The
timeframe for this generally between 02Z Wednesday and 10Z
Wednesday.

Also, increasing omega and an increasing southerly flow throughout
the troposphere will increase the PWATS to well above 90th
percentile climatology values overnight. Models still conveying PWAT
values near 1.4 inches maximum overnight into the coastal parts of
the region. Expecting a period of moderate to locally heavy rainfall
overnight. With some elevated instability across eastern parts of
the region, can nor rule out a few isolated rumble of thunder. This
seems to line up with the CAMs, which depict a consolidating squall
line that seems to get more organized as it makes it way farther
east within the region overnight.

Cool thanks yikes NYC goes about 60mph for a hour or so. Peaks around 12-2am. But still strong majority of the evening. That's the closest I can get for my area.

There's our big cutter surface L getting into northern Indiana. That's an impressive southernly flow out ahead of it. I expect temps to really rise quickly if they haven't already for folks. Surface low already at 980mb. Flooding will be a problem where there is and soon to be was snow, no question about it.

.58" in the bucket 46.2/46.2

I noticed something similar with the accuweather website forecast saying gusts to 70 in my area but yet for NYC it was only 52

I don’t think northern zones will lose all of their snow, but I definitely agree folks south of I-78 could approach 60° which is why that’s my max zone. I think the coast suffers some because they’ll be refrigerated by the cooler water.

I think this is a blend of NWS WFO forecast grids…? Mugs can correct me if I’m wrong

Yes it is. Dam GIF didn't load.
Heavy rains in t-minus 30 minutes to overtake the state on NJ.
