Your timing is the same as ours, but you will see a slightly extended period of higher wind threat beyond 2am

Re: JAN 9th-10th Flooding Threat
It's just about to go to all rain here in Albany, NY. But for about an hour before it changed over, it was really coming down here, and it coincided with my evening commute. I was cautious and slow as I should be in this situation. But in that 6 mile drive back to my apartment, it was ripping snow, resulting in a fresh coating of snow on the main roads (which should be washed away within the next few hours by the heavy rain).

Of all the people to ask me that question, you’re the last person I’d expect haha but, to answer, I’ve astutely observed weather here my entire life, so I can get a pretty good guess based on how various wind speeds sound through the trees haha

I think the trees are key. They make different sounds as the wind speeds get higher. After a few hours of the 20-25 mph sound, you can definitely hear the trees get blown at 40+ mph. At least if you have a thick patch of pines nearby like I did back in Bayville.

Re: JAN 9th-10th Flooding Threat
They just updated our rainfall totals, now 2.5 - 3.5" on top of snowmelt from upstream. Just had a gust of about 17 mph and my weather station is on my deck, so probably was higher. 50* now.

Re: JAN 9th-10th Flooding Threat
Lol I imagine, its hard to tell here as there isn't much sound. I can guage by how much the street lights are swining. When I lived in the woods in CT I know what you are talking about but I still would not know how to tell if it was 40 50 or 60mph.rb924119 wrote:jmanley32 wrote:How the heck can u guage wind speed by sound?rb924119 wrote:Definitely 40-45mph gusts here now. Not much wind but raining pretty heavily, the street lights are swinging a bit. I am guessing with the next heavier batch of rain may see a uptick in winds.
