I live in Woodmere,NY on the South Shore of Nassau County. It has been sleeting here pretty heavily for about 1 hour
now.I live in an apt. building so I can't really get a good measurement of snow but I would guess there is about 6 to 7
inches of snow and sleet already on the ground. Before the turnover to sleet the snow was coming down very hard for
about 2 to 3 hours.I was wondering when the change over back to snow is going to happen here.By the way I wanted
to tell everyone out there that I love this forum.Keep up the good work everyone.

I give you a lot of credit. I am by no means saying it in a bad way, just saying we got more than we thought, but you were much better than the people who said 3-6" for me lol

Frank, for all of us that had to go to work in the city today, what exit time should we be looking for? I take an express from Midtown to Staten Island, which is unreliable on a rainy day, let alone a snow day. People keep mentioning the change to rain, no one is talking about the second snow band that's going to follow.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Local Mets just can't keep up, I just saw one say NYC may exceed 6 inches when Central Parkl already reported 7 inches at 9AM.
Their stations should buy them all yardsticks.

Are we still expecting the dry slot to filter over the area sometime today? If so, was just wondering about what time because I will have to go out and use the snow blower in two parts with this storm. Any help would be appreciated.

LOL, you guys will be in school to July 4th at this rate.
Unfortunately, NJ state law says the school year ends on June 30th, and by that date they have to have 180 days of at least 4 hours of classes. This is for elementary and high schools.
Most likely the spring break is gone, and I read a lot of places are going to have to take away Good Friday, Memorial Day, and a few of the "teacher training" days. Other states are talking Saturday school, too.
While the majority of people are saying NYC is irresponsible for having schools open and marking absent any student not there, they *will* be open for their 180 days whether they have students attending or not.

Re: Archived: 2/13/14 Godzilla Storm
NJ Transit no bus service in Essex County by order of OEM. My hubby went to work ( UPS) at 5 this morning. I warned him he was crazy, but only has 1 sick day until May,he kept saying.."the news says it's going to change to rain" UGH. Hope he gets home, otherwise sleepover at work! Channel 7 was on Rt 9 in NJ and the only vehicles on the road were the UPS trucks. My son works for a pizzeria a few blocks away from home and he walked up, they will be open! I'll go out and measure in a little bit but it is impressive for sure!

My Mom's district in Fort Lee NJ is considering half days on Saturdays to make up.The kids like that better than losing the spring break or extending the year.

mayor deblasio ( and not just him but all the mayors before him also) on one hand says do not drive unless it's an emergency stay indoors today, and on the other hand leave schools open. I guess going to school is an emergency.

Will this stay a powdery snow or will it get wetter as the storm evolves ? Any thoughts from our members ? 25* NE wind at 10-15mph and snowing extremely heavy.
