frank i think some of that band is sleet on radar. The rain snow line should stop moving north according to those futurecasts. Or do you think it will just changeover sooner because it started sooner?

It will probably change over sooner. I'm looking at dual pol radar now and coastal NJ is sleeting a bit because the precip rate is intense, bringing in warm air aloft from the ocean. It's temporary. Changeover not expected until 11am ish

so not sooner. I was looking at the same radar. The wrf kept showing the r/s line actually moving south a little once the heavy stuff comes

It's all nowcast, but the HRRR also delays the rain. Even when it does warmup, precip rates won't be as strong since dry air is moving into the 700mb level by then. That means we should see a dry slot. However, if the EURO is right the dry slot and warmer temps are short lived and we go back to snow by 5pm ish

Re: Archived: 2/13/14 Godzilla Storm
so sleet around 11 am for western long island then maybe some light rain dry slot until 5-6pm then back to snow until 3-5 am?

Re: Archived: 2/13/14 Godzilla Storm
Latest HRRR is amazing. That CCB probably pivots east. You see Pat, this model shows little to no rain. Big dry slotÂ

Re: Archived: 2/13/14 Godzilla Storm
you can see a sleet line developing on that radar but its to the south. and i dont think the coast goes back to snow until a little later. Temps might be too warm later in the afternoon

Once the low deepens offshore, temps crash. Especially 850mb.

steady snow everything covered 23* light ne winds.. from mt holly
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
THE CENTER OF LOW PRESSURE (1004 MB) WAS LOCATED JUST OFF THE SE
NC COAST AT MIDNIGHT. THE LOW WILL CONTINUE TO DEEPEN AND MOVE UP
ALONG THE COAST OVERNIGHT. PRECIPITATION (SNOW) HAS MOVED
NORTHWARD AND NOW COVERS THE SRN HALF OF THE CWA. WE HAVE ONLY
MADE SMALL ADJUSTMENTS TO SNOWFALL TOTALS (ESPECIALLY NEAR SE NJ)
WHERE SOME OF THE LATEST SPOTTER REPORTS SHOW US A BIT BEHIND WITH
ACCUMS. UPDATED ESTF PRODUCTS TO BE ISSUED AT 1230 AM WITH A
UPDATED SNOW MAP ALSO BEING SENT. NO MAJOR CHANGES TO TOTALS IN
OTHER AREAS ATTM

crazy. Just south of philly could have a few inches already. SW jersey has been getting trained over. Great development to the south and over the ocean.

Re: Archived: 2/13/14 Godzilla Storm
just looked at two radars. accu wx has all snow for nj. TWC radar shows rain for cape may north along the coast to past AC. however AC is currently reporting light snow so TWC radar is incorrect
