Re: General Banter
So I am taking a poll (informal). Does anyone else think that $1038 a month for a medical premium for me my daughter and wife for a couple who only makes mid to upper 5 figures, $30 copay for primary doctor and $50 for specialist plus $15-$40 for medications is a bit insane? This is what I am being forced to choose in 3 days, if I do not take that plan then I still have a high premium and then a $6000 deductible which I could never pay. Well forget doctors and medications, and we both have medical issues which I guess will have to go untreated now, no way I can pay $50 specialist. IS this the norm or is our agency out of their minds. BTW is Aetna.

Re: General Banter
Well, I'm 64 and pay 1085 a month for my plan.I will be on Medicaire later this year so that will become 200 a month for AARP Medigap.
From what I see of the Obamacare subsidies, it ends after 78,000.00 a year income so if a married couple with a child makes more than that, there is no help.Under 78,000, there is some help for a Silver Plan.
I'm surprised you or your wife's job does not cover you with health insurance. If not, welcome to the club.I have paid 100% my entire life as I was self employed. Finally will get help later in the year.
Maybe someone on the site here is well versed on medical insurances and can help you out, jman. It's a sad state of affairs the way the system has evolved.Good luck.

We work together doc, but its cheaper to put me and my daughter on one plan and my wife on her own then the family plan as the family plan is really for 2+ children ($1232 a month). As for the income ya we just miss that obamacare plan level, (I'd actually ask them to decrease my pay possibly, lol) And this IS our portion lol, or so they say! Apparently they say they cover a good portion of it. Still seems rediculous to me, ahhh AARP gotta love it, ways to go for me lol. But $50 to see a specialist for 5 min, really? And $30 for a physical, unless I am deathly ill or blind i am nixing the primary care and vision for now. Unfortunately my wife has quite a bit of pain issues at the age of 40 and has orthopedics and other stuff she has to do which $50 a visit is really going to be a kick in the ass from $30 where it used to be.
And every year we do not qualify for a medical deduction on taxes, its always the standard deduction which kills me! The medical threshold is so dang high! Once I get my masters in May I am looking into hospital social work where they pay only $60 a month for their premium! Which is what we used to pay back in 2007, 1000% increase in 7 years sheesh!

That is terrible news.Iconic Spock on Star Trek.I have on VHS one of his early works which he probably wanted to forget, a serial from the 1950's called "Zombies of the Stratosphere."

He looked GREAT for age 83. God Bless.

Hey Doc
With all this snow and solid cold the spring trout season should benefit greatly. Look for things to start up later than usual (about the 3rd week of April) for fly fishing. This is good because it will also extend the season by 3 weeks due to the colder water temps. We should be good thru early July!!

Jimmy, that description of your Mom and Dad's property tells me there IS a heaven on earth.Just spectacular. My dream was always to have 5 acres with a modern log house right on a lake with 200 feet of lake frontage so I could wade right into the lake and fish in front of my own house.
Is there enough water in the streams up there for spin fishing? I'm not a fly guy like you and don't want to start now at age 64.If I can spin along with you, I'll make sure I come up and you can be the local trout guide for me.Dinner and beers at the local Pub on me for hosting me!

Spin fishing on the Esopus is actually more effective than Flyfishing. We'll do it sometime in the spring/summer no problem!!
Also Doc, there are MANY properties and houses for sale up in the Catskills that meat your "dream" specifications if you're interested. A lot of them are very reasonably priced!

Maybe someday it will be in the cards. When I go to Roscoe and the Beaverkill, I always stop at The "Famous" Roscoe Diner and read those real estate flyers and there are lots of bargains up there.
OK, you are on for trout fishing.Let me know when the fish get active up there and I'll come up for the day.

Everyone seems to hate me on other weather boards, I guess it's because I "haven't been here from the start". Which is why I like this place the best, you all seem to accept new users.
Always liked this place more than the other sites, I've learned so much from here.
Keep up the good work guys!

Re: General Banter
I agree:
An observation by George Carlin before he passed in 2008:
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.
Remember to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
And always remember, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by those moments that take our breath away.

Oldtimer,in 1968, I had a 1963 Grand Prix with that 389 4 bbl engine they put in the GTO's.Most powerful engine I ever drove.In 6
'68 or'69, you could go to GM and custom build anything you wanted, engine, drive train, rear end.Buddy's Dad worked at a Ford Dealer in Garfield and my buddy always had great Mustangs to drive around, a Shelby GT once.Another buddy's brother had a 1965 Chevy Impala SS convertible 396.Incredible era before the gas prices went nuts in '73 killing it off. That's when the Japanese cars got a toehold and that was it.98% of cars on the road in 1969 where USA made.
Your 67 GTO in cherry shape would be 50 thousand or more today.

Re: General Banter
LOL, how many head gaskets did that Vega blow out with the aluminum head and steel block? As WC Fields might have said...."Ah, yes, the old dissimilar metal theory...!"
Far cry from the 265 V 8 GM Engineers designed over a kitchen table in '54 and put into production immediately.I had a '51 Chevy with that monster Blue Flame 6 cylinder. The 265 was 50 pounds LIGHTER,LOL!
The only people who I think were happy with that vega were the Japanese who sold cars by the bushel to pissed off Americans. The Big Three lost their Mojo in the 70's selling gas guzzling rust buckets.
Got a lot of stories about people pissed off at US Cars and went foreign!
BTW, that Motor Trend Editor making Vega COTY should be shot,LOL!
