Re: January 2017 Observations & Discussions
Wow Bill. You're right. Models not picking up on that band of snow working through central PA. If it survives could begin snowing here at some point in the early afternoon. Then there will be a break before the main batch of precip arrives late tonight. NEPA, NNJ, and southern NY should be careful for ice tomorrow morning
Re: January 2017 Observations & Discussions
The radar shows snow over my area, but just talked to the wife at home and there's nothing falling from the sky yet.
28* and 68% humidity. Barometer falling slowly 30.54.

Re: January 2017 Observations & Discussions
Start: Now for western zones, between 6-8pm eastern zones
End: 5-8am Wednesday
An area of low pressure currently located across the Midwest will continue to move northeastward through the Great Lakes and into southern Canada. As it does so, it will continue to lift a warm front extending from it through the region. In fact, we are already seeing precipitation breaking out across the western regions because of it, and this will continue as the front lifts northward through tonight. As the low pressure moves through southern Canada, it will also be dragging an associated cold front with it, which will clear all of the precipitation out by tomorrow morning. There will be brief clearing during the late-morning and early-afternoon, before more clouds begin streaming in for the mid- and late-afternoon in advance of the next system (all rain). Regarding the map, areas in light grey could see a brief start of light snow and/or sleet, before quickly going over to rain. However, because it has been so cold the last few days, the ground will still be below freezing even though the air might not be, which is why the mention of a glaze of ice is there. For the areas in dark grey, the surface temperatures will struggle to get above freezing before the bulk of the precipitation moves out, and could see actual ice accretion up to 0.1".

42* outside. That is 35* warmer than at this time yesterday. I don't see any trouble with us getting to that 60* tomorrow.

Re: January 2017 Observations & Discussions
It was 40 degrees out at 7 am but the driveway was a sheet of ice from I don't know what. It seemed to rain overnight just a bit and it was enough to freeze. Like one of those Japanese obstacle game shows while getting the kid to the bus. I think we are into a couple of weeks of mild weather. I guess the cold will come back (some) in February? I doubt any snow can fall this weekend or MLK Day with these temps

Snow cover wont stop it cuz its all gone here. I didnt think it'd make it to tomorrow anyway.
That light fluffy stuff doesnt have much staying power plus 40's and rain erased it.

Re: January 2017 Observations & Discussions
47.7 right now. A full 32+ degrees above the normal morning low this time of year which in the HV is 15 degrees.
Normal breakdown this time of year is 34/15 in the HV and 38/26 in NYC.
That's why I always say just give me a normal month temp wise and I'll be happy. Very, very frustrating, 19 months and counting.

60 in Wayne. Significant contrast from a few days ago. Nice. Now I'm ready for the freezer. Let's hope it happens.
