Re: May 2020 Observations & Discussions
34.2° and moderate snow falling.
It's been exactly 43 years to the day that I could make that statement on May 9th. Of course that storm produced 6-10 inches of snow in parts of SE NY SNE and Central NY and NE. Slide mountain NY received 27 inches which was the jackpot in that memorable storm.
Now lets see if this one can produce any accumulation, an inch or two would be pretty cool.

35* here with a NW wind gusting near 20 mph. Wind chill in the 20s. Definitely feels like winter. No snow on the ground but a few flakes did fly last night which for May is impressive enough.

Re: May 2020 Observations & Discussions
No snow here. I fell asleep early last night, so might have missed a few flakes, but woke up around 2:30 am and looked outside and no sign of snow. I did see what looked like some ice crystals on my roof, presumably from the rain that fell yesterday.
When I got up at 6:15 this morning it was 32° with a wind chill of 23°. Now at 8:00 it’s edged up to 34° with a wind chill of 25°. That is absolutely nuts for May 9.

Re: May 2020 Observations & Discussions
Last night...talkin' 'bout last night...
About 11:30 winds came through and it started snowing. It was a dusting and though it stuck, it was of course sadly gone by this morning at 5 am when it was 29.
The big news: Othelia came by and chatted me up. Seems with the bad winter (little to no snow) and all the garbage on TV, she got busy and started a family, circumstances being what they were with social distancing. She had six pups named Doc, Damian, CP, Mugs, Janet, and Frank. The good news: she is taking the rest of the year off to show the pups the ropes. She has plans for her own reality show, something of a takeoff on Duck Dynasty but it will be called Groundhog Dynasty as Groundhog Day was already taken. I gave her a couple of carrots, wished her the best, and sent her on her way. Until the next time...

Re: May 2020 Observations & Discussions
31.1° and an inch of fresh snow still on the ground. Looks amazing against the pink flowering trees. Bottomed out at 28.3° this morning.
Was wondering if I'd ever see accumulating snow in May again, especially with how warm the planet is becoming. It's been a 43 year wait to see it again but was worth it for the novelty of it. It doesn't make up for the worst winter ever, but it's a nice attempt at an apology from mother nature.
This is why you can't plant around here until the middle of May at the earliest.

The plastic I put over my plants last night is covered in a layer of ice. The low for me was supposed to be 33, but clearly it was below freezing for a while.

I was lucky enough to see snow last night. Nothing remained in the morning, so its really nice to read how you woke up to it!!

Fear not, Jman. While this was a nice change of pace (maybe an apology as CP put it for the lack of real winter around here) I think this was the end of the line for this recent cold pattern (at least THIS cold). Should start warming slowly this week and by next weekend could be in the upper 60s or low 70s, where we should be this time of year.

I agree, this is the last train out for cold and snow.We won't see this again until mid to late October.Only five months away optimistically, lol.
