I am in West Orange and I just don't know where I can possibly measure the snow. The wind and drifts are insane. I have a two-car width driveway and one side is barely any snow and the other side is like two feet!

dk that sucks, I'm 20 miles due south of you and it's been ripping here since 8am. The damn gradient we've been talking about all week must be right south of you. I've been there so I can totally sympathsize and it sucks, to close for comfort right now.
Heavy snow here and a guesstimate of 5 inches so far all since 7:30 am or so this morning.
We are very lucky CP that cutoff is just above us and Damian, hyde and jimv are not getting the heavy stuff like we are.
My helpful handy fence post markers I placed in the Fall show the one foot marker being covered.Don't know how accurate it is but it is just crushing it out there.Have not seen this kind of snowfall since Feb 1983.

On a separate note, when are we allowed to start drinking? I have two boys aged 11 and 9 that are loving the snow but we are all trapped inside.

Mother Nature tends to even things out. This is what the 12z Canadian is showing for next Friday, just 6 days out. Incredible. I'll have a write up in the long range thread tomorrow if this still looks like a threat.

Re: January 23, 2016 Roidzilla Observations
Who would of thought it? When we all watched the 0z GFS and CMC showing minor events on Thursday night, I was really starting to think it was game set match. The NAM however was persistent with a massive event. I was starting to think that it sniffed out something that the globals could not. Normally with any given storm the NAM will show a ridiculous event once or twice but 10 times in a row! When all is said and done there should be a case study on why all the globals were persistent in seeing the convection jumping like that. Despite the overwhelming depiction the globals were showing, it just didn't seem right at the time.Frank_Wx wrote:Ok, I have to say this. The NAM model will never get bad mouthed from me again. IT NAILED the entire storm since it's been in range. Incredible performance.

Saw Joe Bastardi report on the Neil Cavuto show the other night and he called for two or three of these beasts due to SuperNino.

Re: January 23, 2016 Roidzilla Observations
A couple things. First, I just took my first official measurements. It was difficult because a lot of drifting. But best estimate was 16" measuring in a few wind shielded spots. Drifts as high as 3 feet in spots. Second, I started shoveling out my car (half of which was literally under snow), so that it will be easier later and so that the plows can carry away some of the snow behind my car. I got a lot cleared out but while doing it my heart started pounding out of my chest and I needed to take a break. I like to consider myself in decent shape. I run, workout, etc. Please, PLEASE use caution if you are shoveling this stuff and take it easy. It is taxing and I want everyone on here to be safe.
